I need a new phone, no clue what to get?

I've got a years old Huawei Mate 20 Pro. It's been great but you can't get Huawei anymore.

I'm not bothered about having the latest on trend phones, I just like a decent camera. I
don't like Samsung but open to anything else.

I have my daughters old IPhone 12 here that needs a £60 repair on the back, otherwise it's immaculate. I'm thinking of doing that and going on GiffGaf, but I've heard Iphones don't update after a certain age.

Help please with suggestions of what to get please.

How much are you looking to spend?

GasPanic · 16/07/2024 20:27

Depends what you want.

If you are used to IOS you need apple.

If you want to play games fast then need to pay money.

I have a Nokia G42. It was £120 because it is pink. But got a case for it and it covered up the pinkness.

The only negative I would say vs. Samsung is Samsung gets more Android updates, but I think they may be changing that.

My guess is it will be broken and I will need to replace for another £100 odd quid one by the time Android 16 comes out.

If a good camera is priority, try a Google Pixel. Camera on the standard Pixel is great and the Pro version is even better but you'll pay a few hundred more for it. I love my Pixel. Currently on my fourth.

Mine is a Motorola. Okay for everything but maybe camera isn't as good as it should be, but I do have a cheap model 😬

Both adult DDs love their phones, including the cameras. One has Google Pixel, the other has Oppo. Both DDs instagram so the cameras have to be decent 😂

I had a Huawei for years that was past it's best and bought an Honor, which I think is a subsidiary of Huawei. Got it in Argos and use a tesco sim only deal. Brilliant, loads of storage and I'd recommend it. The colour I got is OOS but it's this model.

I've got an iphone 13, bought second hand/refurbished on amazon, doubt I'll need to replace for about 5 years (I only replace when I really really have to - when phone apps stop working because they only work with the latest iphone OS). So in your shoes, I'd go for the £60 repair of the iphone 12 and wait till it becomes 'obsolete' in a few years, then buy a refurbed year old iphone.

I've got a Rose Pink Samsung something something something. It cost like £140.

I usually set a budget, look through what's available and pick the one I like best.

Before this I had a Nokia 5 something.

I don't know much about phones tbh.
Surf the net, email, phone call and text is all I need.

Don't switch to apple unless you have other Apple products or your family is. You'll be driven mad with the OS differences and it's very expensive to stay in the Apple game
I'd go for a One Plus. Really great, not too bloated OS and not too expensive and battery life is top

I used Huawei and liked them. The last 2 have been Google pixel and like them too.
Cant get on with iPhones at all

This. All phones become obsolete eventually and Apple actually support their phones for longer than most androids.

If you are thinking of a Google Pixel and have Amazon Prime, it's on special offer today and tomorrow. £415.
