LIVERPOOL - Mercure or Aloft Hotel, which is the nicer?

I have a choice of these 2...which is the nicer for nicer rooms, location etc

Aloft is gorgeous, nicer than the Mercure. It's also more central - depending on what you're doing? (Mercure isn't very much farther out mind)

I’ve never stayed in a mercure that wasn’t a shit hole

Aloft is my preference, has great reviews

My friend stayed in the mercury and said it was very dated.
