I must be remembering this wrong?

But I don't think I am.

C. 1978, my primary school Christmas concert. Each class did a short play representing a TV programme of the day.

My class did Top of the Pops and we had a couple presenters, ABBA performed Money Money, there were backing singers and the dance troupe Legs and Co.

Now I realise times were different, but I was in Legs and Co and we wore sequinned bikinis to dance in front of an audience at 7/8yo.

Are you saying it was wrong to be wearing sequined bikinis at that age?

We did Children from Around the World and my friend who had dark curly hair was Africa and had her face made up with gravy browning! Wrong on so many levels.

Yes, that and having 8yos pretending to be a dance troupe known for being "sexy".

We dressed up as BoneyM and sang a song that I now know to be about drugs..

Thats how things were back then, we even had highly paid well loved comedians on the BBC telling racist jokes

But we have moved on

In 1980s we knitted vests to send to the black babies. That was literally the term used every time, no context or information about famine or war, just black babies. We knitted under the gaze of a blue eyed Jesus.

Times were different then. My grandparents thought that you could make sherry into a children's drink by adding lemonade to it. Best just to enjoy your memories!

I don’t think things have changed that much. I recently attended a show of a local dance school (primary school age) and the costumes and makeup were really quite shocking. I sound like an old duffer but I found it quite uncomfortable.
