Highway Control

My poor DH. We live in Bournemouth but Torquay have put up traffic lights with his mobile number as the contact number. He was still getting irate calls at 2am this morning. He's now stuck on his phone to get some help but no ones answering. If it wasn't so annoying and costing us money, (it's his businesses number) it would be funny.

That is quite funny!
Do you live near enough to go and alter the notice?

Bluevelvetsofa · 15/07/2024 12:49

I think it’s quite a distance from Bournemouth to Torquay. 😀

OP lives in Bournemouth and the notice is in Torquay. That's 105 miles so, no.

Best part of 3 hours drive, and there's some dodgy traffic lights ...

Seriously, OP, that's shit and if his business is impacted I'd be looking for compensation.

HelpMeGetThrough · 15/07/2024 12:52

He could have some fun.

When they've finished ranting, he could say "if you don't like the lights, walk you lazy bastard."

Oops. Didn't put two and two together there. Obvious now you point it out! 😂

It's not quite so funny when I answer the phone and they tell me to sort the fu*king lights out, then put the phone down on me.

Wouldn't it be possible for your DH to record a message explaining the problem and ask clients/people wanting to contact him to use alternative methods? Then let everything go to voicemail?

PuttingDownRoots · 15/07/2024 13:08

Can he stick an answerphone message on, saying its not the highways department but XX business, and people for X business to leave a message and hell phone back?

GerardWay123 · 15/07/2024 14:20

Than you for your kind messages. To be honest we run our own business and cards, websites etc are always proof read many times. Surely the council or whoever are quite capable of that. This is their problem that they have created for us. P .s. Sorry if I sound grumpy.

I'm not surprised you're grumpy! Yes, you'd have thought they could have someone ring any number they put on a sign to check it works, but if you expect road sign makers to proofread maybe you've forgotten this ...

Sadly no, 99% are full of incompetents. When I worked for the local Council, they had just started the recycling scheme. Sent out tens of thousands of flyers giving a direct dial number for complaints if your recycling wasn't collected.

It was my direct dial number and I was in the IT Department, I gave up answering the phone if an external number showed.

In the end I had to have a new extension and DDI number.
