SilverHeels · 15/07/2024 10:47

I am going to a wedding in a couple of weeks . I am wearing a green jewel colour dress and am struggling to know what jacket / cardi to wear. I really feel the cold so will need to wear something unless we have a heatwave.

I have a blue denim jacket is that a no no for a smart / casual wedding ?

I have a black denim type jacket or black cardis but feel I want something more cheerful for a summer wedding.

please help me I am hopeless. Size 14 ish short person. Big boobs.

the dress is sort of like this just a little bit more flouncy.

No to the denim jacket
No to the trainers
No to DMs

You've nailed the hardest part, the dress.

Can I wear gold sparkly DMs ?

Boots? To a wedding in July/August? No! Not unless it's a wedding with a festival vibe (marquee/field etc).

I’d say no to the denim jacket for a wedding and I feel it wouldn’t fit with that dress too.

PiggieWig · 15/07/2024 11:17

No to denim jacket and trainers. Is the wedding outside? Otherwise I don’t think you’ll need a jacket if you are staying at the venue.

Seas164 · 15/07/2024 11:18

A denim jacket and trainers are not for wearing at a wedding. It's a special occasion, and while you don't have to go mad it's respectful and polite to look like you've made a bit of an effort.

Dress is gorgeous. Get a cardigan, this comes in various colours and you would get loads of wear out if it, and a pair of flat sandals if you can't wear heels. There are heaps of gold flat sandals in the sale at the mo if you can't find any on a charity shop run.

Too casual

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 15/07/2024 11:19

I would go to a charity shop and find a jacket, neat cardi or some sort of wrap.

MorrisZapp · 15/07/2024 11:23

I wore a denim jacket to my sisters winter wedding, I was the bridesmaid! I bought a furry collar from amazon, pinned it on and felt like a film star 😍

Pashminas are an abomination in my view. Wore one at peak pashmina and we looked like we'd just been rescued by the Carpathia.

Get a smart jacket from vinted, something like this: Wedding jacket | Vinted

For shoes, try TK Maxx.

Wedding jacket

Bolero jacket

Denim, trainers & DMs all too casual unless it is a very very casual wedding.

Divebar2021 · 15/07/2024 11:43

I think hot pink and leopard print would be good with that colour.. hot pink jacket with a leopard bag would look good. Shoes could definitely be sandals - I would go gold but black at a push.

SilverHeels · 15/07/2024 12:42

@Seas164 I love that cardi thank you . Will see if I can get it delivered in the time frame. I may just buy it anyway as it is fabulous.

@Divebar2021 I agree and if I had more time I would go with that . Unfortunately am away so am limited with delivery and shopping time.

No to a denim jacket, trainers or DMs.
Have you ever actually been to a wedding before?!

I've been to many. About 30. And I wouldn't bat an eyelid at sparkly gold DMs or a denim jacket. The DMs sound ace.

Longdueachange · 15/07/2024 12:55

I don't think I would wear a cardigan either to be fair, again as its more garden party or barbecue than wedding. A jacket or pashmina would be the best. Megan wore emerald green dresses with a matching cape and nude shoes, so a similar coloured pashmina would have the same effect. There was also a picture of her in emerald green with a beige jacket.

ScribblingPixie · 15/07/2024 13:32

Similarly pink cardi but with a more jacket-y look at Zara

Who's to say brand new pricy trainers and a brand new denim jacket aren't 'making an effort'? As I said before, I wore one, and got told it was great. When I got married I wanted my lovely friends to be exactly themselves, and my friends and rellies feel the same way, thank God.

Seas164 · 15/07/2024 13:47

It's just my opinion, not law. I don't feel that a pair of trainers, however "pricy" or brand new and a denim jacket are wedding guest wear. Pub, yes. Sainsbury's run? Absolutely. Going to get your nails done? Go for it. Wedding guest, not for me, although it probably depends on the kind of wedding and the guests.

pointlessopportunity · 15/07/2024 14:02

Blue denim wouldn't look right with that dress

Can you get pleather/leather or something else?

RuthW · 15/07/2024 14:10

Absolutely not

user1497787065 · 15/07/2024 14:12

No wear a vest/camisole under the dress. M and S have a huge choice.

One of the fashion gurus on TV, I can't remember which one said always layer from
beneath.

Whithersoever · 15/07/2024 14:13

No. Ditto funeral.

cloudy477654 · 15/07/2024 14:20

No it's too casual. I would go for a wrap in a cream/neutral colour with that dress in summer
