Vague illnesses for 6 months

Thunderandlightningisfrightening · 14/07/2024 21:39

Everyone seems ill at the minute. However I've noticed in the past 6 months my health has been erratic.
January migraine and bad cold. Kept falling asleep
Feb migraine. Started propanolol treatment for these. All bloods OK
March virus, headaches, sty in my eye
April diarrhoea stool sample clear
May virus like covid. Weeks of diarrhoea and lethargy after this
Presently tiredness, hot flashes, feeling nausea.
Any ideas ? Usually fit and well

Anyone ?

I know so many people who are experiencing this sort of thing! I blame covid. I think it's wiped everybody's immune systems in the same way that the measles virus does, so our immune system is having to re-learn to recognise all the common bugs.

Interesting theory. I've never really been ill before and I realise the past 6 months have been shocking.

I read an article a few weeks ago that suggested that countries who had a hard lockdown are all experiencing problems like this.
I suppose it makes sense; if we are all at home avoiding people our immune system is not being triggered so becomes less effective. Then when you do catch a virus it can’t work as well. It’s like if you don’t use your muscles they will become weaker.

It appears it’s yet another unforeseen consequence of lockdown.

The GP has queried perimenopause at 38. Due to migraines I've come off combined pill so will see what my cycle is like. I've also stopped anti depressants 4 weeks ago. Could this all be withdrawal?!?

I have been on and off ill all this year. I'm wondering if it's lack of sunshine. I have ordered some vit d supplements to see if it helps.
Constant cough, fatigue, now have another cold. It's relentless.

Thunderandlightningisfrightening · 15/07/2024 18:57

I'm on high level vit D. I was fine until 6 months ago now I'm like an old woman.

@Thunderandlightningisfrightening I’m the same I feel like I’m just lurching from problem to problem. Seems to mostly be my stomach - was told by GP it’s likely IBS but it also comes with absolute exhaustion, nausea and needing to be in bed for at least a day. This is happening every 4-6 weeks. Also had the covid type thing with a fever (covid test negative) in June. So no answers yet I’m afraid but just so you know you’re not alone. I’m also 38 but feel about 88 some days

Thunderandlightningisfrightening · 15/07/2024 19:37

Thanks. The GP has queried peri menopause too!

Thunderandlightningisfrightening · 15/07/2024 22:07

This doesn't stand up to a moment's scrutiny. Brief periods of lockdown affecting immunity years later? No. But there is increasing evidence of repeated Covid infections affecting immunity and inflammation.

Another... Up to 2 years after Covid, persistent virus and T cell activation in multiple tissues, especially high in gut:

Sevillelights · 16/07/2024 22:20

How are you feeling @Thunderandlightningisfrightening hopefully a bit better?

Thunderandlightningisfrightening · 16/07/2024 22:35

I've come off the combined pill and started to bleed and feel better. I think the pill is causing the migraines. How is everyone else ?

OP posts:
Starboy14 · 16/07/2024 22:36

Would you try taking some probiotics? All that diarrhoea could have upset your gut and research shows this can affect your immune system. I took probiotics for about 3 months late last year and didn't get so much as a sniffle through winter, and previously I seemed to pick up everything going around.

bananacreampie · 16/07/2024 22:38

It's hardly the lockdowns. Multiple covid infections (it's just a cold!) does a number on multiple body systems.

Barnabyby · 16/07/2024 22:44

I was more ill before COVID than after. I'm very rarely ill now, although interestingly I get fewer colds, but more sinus/throat infections nowadays.

COVID's Hidden Toll: Full-Body Scans Reveal Long-Term Immune Effects : ScienceAlert

"Together, these observations suggest that even clinically mild infection could have long-term consequences on tissue-based immune homeostasis and potentially result in an active viral reservoir in deeper tissues."

There are multiple reports on the different negative effects on multiple body systems c/- Covid infections.

How is everyone? I've come off the combined pill and am bleeding. My God the migraine that has gone on for 2 weeks has gone.

Sevillelights · 18/07/2024 19:58

@Thunderandlightningisfrightening that must be such a relief. Had no idea it could cause those types of side effects. I was doing ok but risked some comfort food and paid the price
