How do you explain sahm-time on your cv?

I finished uni the year DC1 was born.
When he was 2 I did a 9 month traineeship.
Then I had DC2.
When DC1 was 8 I did a 16 month part-time temporary freelance contract (same place as traineeship).
Then I was injured and, by the time I had an operation to walk again and physio started, Covid hit.
After Covid, MIL was reluctant to visit so I had no viable childcare. DS has SN, issues with school and we were not able to put him in after school club or find any childcare setting who would take him.

I've been looking for part time work since then, but haven't found anything. Either they want full time which I can't as although DC1 is now 14, he can't be left for any length of time, or I'm rejected as over-qualified for part time jobs.

I've just seen the perfect job advertised, 0.5 FTE but I don't know how to explain away all the gaps on my c.v. PIL have recently moved to be close to us so I now have support for childcare. The temporary contract ended 31st Dec 2018.

Just put “taking time out to raise a family” or “time out to care for disabled relative”

I have 2 boys with autism and a 3rd with sen and took loads of time out, then I started an MSc to get my skills up to date, got offered a job halfway through so shelved it and now wfh full time.

I’d just put Career break - caring responsibilities.

Yep. Keep it simple and factual. Career break or caring responsibilities. Good luck with your application!
