Cancel holiday charge

So DH and his family decided to book an holiday for us all 2 days ago.
I now can't get the time off work.

Does anyone know if we took our names off the holiday would we get a full refund? The holiday is with TUI and was paid in full on booking it.

You won't get a refund. He can just go with the kids surely? If

Did he buy Tui Flex alongside the booking?

Were the flights with TUI? as if they're with another airline you lose 100% of the flights cost. I just had this as tried to cancel over 70 days before but lost almost 40% of total paid.
Bottom line you need to speak to TUI

If you cannot get a refund or change it, your DH will have to manually update and go with the kids. He WILL manage. And his parents can help.

It's a bit weird he didn't wait for your holiday confirmation though ....

Do the kids have any additional needs ?
If not ,why on earth can't he take them?

It's all booked through TUI but the flights are a different company

The youngest is autistic and needs to be watched constantly so it would mean less attention for the oldest if we both wasn't there. Also I'm the one the youngest needs and wants when she's having a meltdown. Only I can really calm her down

I know right!! He seems to think that I confirmed it with him that I could get the time off!

I'm not actually sure. I've never heard of this, is it a nee thing they've brought out?

@bumblebuz it's a flexible booking option and allows more flexibility when needing to cancel or change holidays, you add it onto the booking when you book.

How reasonable is your employer if you discussed the situation?

If all booked through TUI as a package but flight with different airline (but booked through TUI) you would lose the cost of the flights. In our case that was £300 of a £700 holiday. 😩 (despite cancelling 12 weeks ahead)
Also you can only cancel by calling them, not online if airline different fyi

We were charged 200 per person by tui when 3 people were unable to come. We had also paid in full, so even though you don't necessarily pay a deposit, they will take it off your refund

I was just about to ask this. I recently booked a holiday with TUI for next year. I think flexi (which allows free cancellation) was something like £150 extra. The cancellation policy and different penalty dates were made very clear to me at the booking stage.
Admittedly I didn’t pay it (really need to cut corners everywhere at the moment) but travel insurance would cover illness for us.

Ring TUI first thing tomorrow morning. I’ve always found them incredibly helpful.
