Gold plating baby teeth

Catscookbook · 13/07/2024 18:39

Anyone know where I could get this done?

I realise this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I desperately want a baby tooth charm.

Ah no idea sorry! But I genuinely thought you wanted to gold plate the baby teeth inside your toddlers mouth for a second haha

Hermittrismegistus · 13/07/2024 18:44

That's creepy.

BruceWillissDribble · 13/07/2024 18:51

Ask your local independent jewelers/pawn shop. Ramsdens, or somewhere else a bit council

Me too 😂

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/07/2024 18:54

Not as creepy as someone I know why has then made in to a necklace where they are in a cage-like contraption.

Oh the irony, an answer intended to offend but showing you up to be totally classless.

OP, search electroplating near me and you will get a list of businesses that can do this for you.

Longdueachange · 13/07/2024 18:57

I guess it would be something you could do for the baby as a christening present type thing, but its a odd to wear someone else's tooth, even your own child.

Bearybasket · 13/07/2024 19:03

Ooh watching with interesting as I’m now wandering whether it’s possible to get animal bones plated too!

I think gold plating a first tooth would be a lovely keepsake! I’ve kept all my kids first teeth and my dad still has mine and my siblings.

Exactlab · 13/07/2024 19:26

Why?

It’s incredibly tacky. It’s up there with having your children’s names tattooed all over your body.

Me too 😂

And me 😆

mondaytosunday · 13/07/2024 19:27

Ok well as you know Google is your friend! Etsy has a few who do this sort of thing.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 13/07/2024 19:52

🙈

Dahmer vibes from that Etsy link

Catscookbook · 13/07/2024 19:55

Thanks all, I can’t find quite the right thing on Etsy or via google so that’s why I asked. Electroplating sounds a good line of enquiry.

Loving the idea of a full gold grill in a toddler mouth, shall definitely ask the dentist…

Fiona Hutchinson is an independent jeweller and she sets spices in gold (cloves for example) so I’m sure if you contact her she’ll be able to do it. Her stuff is absolutely gorgeous.

Shybutrude · 13/07/2024 20:01

@Catscookbook electroplating can be expensive and need a minimum weight ( I used to work some where that made tiaras in base metal. I know the company had to have a minimum amount they sent to be plated. I'm also unsure how successful it will be. (Also bones) Due to moisture ( I can't decide if I've made that up about moisture!)

It's not exactly what you want but this lady in California creates pendants out of baby teeth. Might be worth dropping her a message to see what she can do?

Catscookbook · 13/07/2024 20:04

@Shybutrude Thanks I do think this might be the case - I emailed one place last week (not sure if officially electroplating but that type of thing) and they said it was too small.

An independent jewellery maker is probably the way forward.

@Catscookbook a working jeweler might be able to make a lost wax cast of it so it's exactly the same but not the actual tooth

Great, are those real teeth inside or just the shape of them? Either way she’s worth an ask.

Could you roll it around in gold leaf and then varnish it?

I had popcorn ready for a baby Jaws thread!

Not a bad idea! You might need to sand the tooth a bit, then cover with metal leaf glue then gold leaf!
If you’re near me and want me to have a go I’m intrigued as to whether this will work!

Me too. I thought it was some weird Instagram influencer thing.
Maybe ask in a jewellers OP?

looks like someone on Etsy does them but I can’t post the link from the App.
