Vinted ... am I being a prick

I orded something from vinted . I asked if they could let me know when they post as I'm hoping to get the item in time for a birthday gift . They replied they normally do that once they have taken a photo and dispatched

I feel confused about the reply because i asked when it would be posted . And they replied they do this when a photo is taken and dispatched. But does dispatched and posted not mean the same thing.

Also the delivery cost was 10.00 so I was hoping it would be a good service.

Vinted say they dont have to sent till 15th so there's no rules broken .

Asking to let you know 'when it is posted' means when they put it in the list, they will let you know they have done it.

Asking 'when will it be posted' would mean please let me know when you intend to post it

madameparis · 13/07/2024 11:39

You normally get an automated message from Vinted once it’s posted.

It’s fine to politely message and ask if there is any chance they could post it asap as you are hoping to have it by X date. Up to them if they can make that happen or not.

Next time if you need something in a hurry, don’t order it from vinted!

I bought from vinted because I could not afford to buy new.

I feel like a week to post is a long time. Maybe I'm wrong though. I have never posted a parcel in my life so I'm not sure how it all works .

They might mean they take a photo of the parcel before they post it, to cover them in case a buyer says it’s not been sent properly or something.

You get quite a long time to get something posted on vinted so they’re unfortunately not under any obligation to get it sent sooner, fingers crossed they might though.

Floralsofa · 13/07/2024 11:48

If you needed posting by a certain time you really should have mentioned before purchasing.

Vinted postage is not dictated by the seller.

Pery · 13/07/2024 11:50

Some people take a photo of the parcel before posting, maybe that's what they mean.
I find the vast majority of sellers including me post the next day.
Unfortunately some take the full week which is really frustrating. I once had a stellar who waited until the 8th day as it was a bank holiday.
Nothing you can do apart from cancelling if you can't wait. That has a negative effect on your rating though.

NoDishiRishi · 13/07/2024 11:51

You asked them to let you know when they post which means to let you know when it has been posted. You need to ask them when they will post it and politely request that it's asap.

True I never thought of it 😭 because I have bought lots from There And it's always been sent pretty fast.

And stupid of me bur because the postage seems to be quite expensive I thought ot would be done quicker.

I think you take your chances ordering from Vinted and expecting fast delivery. No harm in asking nicely but sometimes I actually cannot squeeze in dropping the parcel off til quite a few days later.
I try and get it done ASAP but not always possible.

BigPussyEnergy · 13/07/2024 11:54

You’ve never posted a parcel?!

For me, getting to the parcel post box or a drop off point for eg evri is a bit of a faff, so I would wait until I had a couple of things to post rather than end up taking one at a time.

Maybe rather than asking them to let you know when it’s posted you could have asked if they could try and get it to you by xx date as it’s for a gift so they would know why you wanted to know.

As PPs have mentioned there is usually an automated dispatch notice for these things so you’d get an email. Presumably they’ll also send a pic of the parcel with your address on it to prove that they’ve sent it.

Then it’s on Royal Mail or whoever to do their part, which oftentimes they don’t! Once it leaves their hands it’s out of their control so you’ll just have to assure the recipient that it’s on the way and apologise for it being a little late for their birthday.

Crunchymum · 13/07/2024 11:55

You asked "let me know when you post" which has been taken to mean 'let me know when you've posted the item' whereas what you meant to ask "when will this item be posted?"

Really you should have asked before buying. I've done this before when I've needed something in a hurry.

Saintmariesleuth · 13/07/2024 11:56

I don't think you can use Vinted and expect it to operate in the same way as Amazon. Lots of sellers have reasons that they won't be able to post items immediately. I certainly wouldn't rely on it if I needed something in a hurry.

Also, from the wording in your first paragraph, I would not have interpreted that as being asked when I intended to post the item. I would read that as being asked to let you know once I had sent the item.

Yeah that's normally my experience as a buyer. Yeah i get they would want to take a photo but i don't understand why it takes so long to do that. I did ask about posting due to a birthday. I won't ask for a refund because that would mean not getting it at all .

That's true. But I did tell them why I was asking and the date I needed it by. To be fair there may still be time

No. I can't be the only one surely 😅

They’ve answered your question.

You said “I asked if they could let me know when they post”

They replied “they normally do that once they have taken a photo and dispatched”

So they’re confirming they’ll do exactly what you’ve asked and they do it as standard practice.

Did you mean to ask “Could you please let me know when you will be posting?”

TheLastTimeEver · 13/07/2024 12:04

Hoptoithopperty · 13/07/2024 12:02

No. I can't be the only one surely 😅

I know this is not the point of the thread but that’s hugely unusual. So you’ve never bought something online and queued at the post office / Evri counter to return it? You’ve never sent someone a Christmas gift in the post?

🤣 . I can't be the only one. I dont sell things or do vinted and things like that.

I would put it down to experience, maybe just ask next time if they could post it by a certain date before purchasing:)

Tulipsareredvioletsarebue · 13/07/2024 12:05

If you wanted it at a certain time you should have ordered earlier. I dealt with a buyer once, they expected immediate postge when you get 7 or so working days, and ended up messaging daily and threatening cancelling the transaction- which I didnt allow and I sent when I could (the seller can refuse the cancellation). I post whe nI can, sometimes 5 days later and Id think if you really want something immediately, buy it in a store online or eorganise yourself to do it early enough.

This. You worded your request in a confusing manner if you meant to say ‘I’d like to receive it by X date for a birthday gift - is that possible?’

MogHog · 13/07/2024 12:07

Next time ask before you buy when they would be able to post if you bought and paid for the item on that day.

I sell a lot of Vinted and always post the same or next day as I'm near to most parcel shops but it still annoys me when someone buys something then sends me a message asking me to ship that same day as they need it for x date. It's always better to check first that this is possible

You’ve never sent gifts, or returned something you’ve bought online? Yes that’s incredibly unusual for an adult in 2024, but you live and learn :)
