suddenly realised I am the odd one out!

I am nearly 60 and it has only just in the last month come home to me how unusual I am to be happy my entire life single and not want to be in a relationship. Two things have made this obvious -

  1. Access to the electoral register while working for the election - really and truly, most households are based on heterosexual couples, and most of those that are not, are based on homosexual couples.
  1. Quick scan though my address book to see if there is anyone who would like to watch the football with me, as I want to stay home where I can busy myself with other things if it gets too tense! Anyone I know likely to be watching it alone? no!! everyone will be with their partners...

Maybe its because the election work made me more aware, or maybe its because England has never been in this situation before - it has taken me this long to see it though 😂especially as I happened to have people staying when the woman's final was on

England hasn’t been in this situation before? Except …. for the last Euros three years ago?

But great you’re happy to be single though. Enjoy the football!

It's very true, but how have you only just noticed? What do you do with the rest of your time?

I'm watching the football with 2 single male friends, one single woman, a couple and a man whose wife isn't interested.

I think it's totally normal to be happily single... especially these days when women are seeing how marriage/LTR tend to be much more beneficial for men than women.

Tbf, OP did cover the women's victory...and tha point has been laboured enough now, don't you think?

Thinking about it, I was probably aware of being the odd one out as teen, when I had no interest in relationships at all, but it was all my friends ever put any energy into, but it hasn't ever really crossed my mind in the decades in between

Wasn’t the men’s team in the final at the last Euros?

Well that was the first post in response to the OP so I don’t think it quite qualifies as labouring the point.
