Mild intrusive thoughts

Does anyone else get this, and how do you deal with them?

I have constant low level intrusive thoughts - phrases like ‘I hate myself’, ‘I’m a bad person’, ‘I wish I was dead.’ I’m not depressed and certainly not suicidal - though life is tough and I’m not exactly happy.

I don’t know what to do to stop these thoughts though. Sometimes I say them out loud and I worry the kids will hear.

Hello yes I do a bit - especially when I'm feeling anxious! I've read to deal with them you have to acknowledge them as an observer, so say to yourself 'oh it's the I'm a bad person thought' and move on, don't dwell. I think the worst thing to do is worry about the thought because you end up in a bit of a cycle 💐

Start with saying nice things about yourself everyday ... sounds super cheesy but the more you tell yourself positive things, the more you will begin to hear them.

We are programmed to notice the negative and the unhelpful so you need to make a conclusion decision to change that by being kind to yourself.

Somepeople like to put a positive thought a day in a jar or post it notes on a mirror... something where you see them build up.

Try.. you have nothing to lose

Thanks - that sounds sensible. What kind of nice things do you say though?!
