What's Malta like - looking for a short break in September probably 4 nights.
Where to go? Any recommendations?

Another vote for Valetta.
It's a great city and you'll be able to see quite a lot in 4 days

Yeah I'd just stay in Valetta. There's plenty to do! We went for two weeks in September and travelled around the whole island but I wouldn't for a short break. Valetta has boat trips, tours, great restaurants, a bit of a beach (should still be warm enough for a paddle if not a swim!), good shopping, beautiful architecture etc.

We only went as it was H's friend's wedding but honestly I was far more impressed than I expected to be!

Oh and LOTS of cathedrals, museums and a fort, it's a great city with loads of history!

We had 7 nights in Valetta in October- still nice and warm- up to 28c - loads to do and see- the Fort is a great day out on it's own. Plenty of excellent restaurants and generally a good vibe! would go back for sure. Also very close to airport- was a 15 min taxi transfer for us from where we were staying in the old town.

We got married there - so beautiful. Definitely stay in Valetta - all the buses go from the centre to all over island. I'd recommend the cathedral, mdina, upper and lower barakka gardens, dingly cliffs, harbour boat trip and so many war memorial stuff and forts around.

Lots of love for Valletta. Thanks I'll start my search there

I've just booked a 4 day break in Sliema in September :D
(To be fair I've done Valletta many times) It's a lovely time of year to go, still fabulous weather. If you can go to M'dina (the silent city), and the Market at Marasxlokk if you are there on a sunday morning!

If you have a chance do have a day (or simply stay) in Gozo; it’s a 20mins ferry from Valletta and so beautiful

Nickinoo30 · 12/07/2024 21:37

We stayed in Sliema for 3 nights in May and got the ferry over to Valetta for 2 days. Took 10 mins and was €2 each. Loved it!
