Can you still get proper PAYG SIM cards?

I’ve just upgraded my mobile and kept my old
one to be used by my eldest daughter. She’s 10 and this is the first summer we are letting her out for short periods without us (to the park at the end of the road for example.

At the moment the phone is only to be used when she’s out without an adult or away for a sleepover so my plan was to buy a PAYG sim for my old handset, but now I’m trying to find one they all seem to be monthly payments for u limited calls and a small amount data. I just want to give her £10 credit so she can phone me if she needs to, can you still get these?

I believe what you are after is an old fashioned PAYG SIM where if you put a tenner on it and didn't use it, you would still have a tenners credit months down the line?

Some of the SIM deals people are posting here look like that but in reality they involve some kind of constant top up to keep the SIM working.

The original PAYG Sims could be found on eBay for a while but they die too if not connected to the network after a certain amount of time, legacy SIMs I believe they were called.

For the least hassle I just have a Lebara SIM, fiver a month.

You can find the Asda PAYG rates here mobile.asda.com/rates-and-charges - you just order a free SIM and can add money to the account from there.

We used one at the beginning, but quickly found that the data wasn't enough as she started to go out more and changed to the cheapest plan.
So think about how you want her to use it, just a plain call only phone or are you planning to track it's location, use maps, check the bus times?
