Has anyone had success with a ultrasonic fox repellent?

I've got at least one fox in my garden (no need to tell me there's probably an entire family there! I'd rather not think about it) and I want to get rid of them. They're digging up my garden, crapping everywhere and I can't use my garden at all this summer.

Has anyone found an ultrasonic fox repellent that actually works? My gardener is coming to clear away everything at ground level but can't come for a couple of weeks. I'd really like the foxes to have set up home elsewhere before then. Reviews on the repellents don't seem consistent.

TIA.

BBC radio Sliced Bread programme did a podcast on similar thing - it was about repelling mice with them and said that they would probably be a bit annoying to the creature but if they're coming to you for food/shelter then the noise wouldn't be enough to put them off permanently.

A bit like those 'mosquito' devices they used outside shops to deter teenagers!

What's the best - and most humane - way to get rid of pests?

Please don't.

Our neighbours had one of these. The sound frequency wasn't set high enough - we could hear it but our older neighbours couldn't. Apparently upper frequencies are lost as you get older.

We couldn't use our garden as the noise was so repellent to us. Similar to the high pitched alarms used to disperse teens from congregating.

The sound made me feel nauseous.

Our neighbours initially refused to do anything because "they couldn't hear it".

Eventually they stopped using it. Never did anything to deter foxes.

Not sure that's going to be a problem for me. I have two next door neighbours - one is quite deaf and the others are going away for a month-long holiday on Monday.
