Best dinosaur trip

Hello

My lovely DD is absolutely dinosaur mad. Her siblings have has an age appropriate treat and I'm looking for something to do with her.

We are Scotland based, have done museums and Blair Drummond and landmark.

Where is the best, most informative Dino adventures we could go on.

Jurassic coast I've sourced a coach trip possibly next summer.

Would a trip to London be worthwhile? Any actual Dino parks I'm missing?

She is utterly obsessed. DH blames me for watching friends when pregnant but if she doesn't become a palaeontologist I will be very surprised!

Thank you.

Heaton Park this summer

You could stay at the Trafford centre and do Dino golf too and it's good for the motorways. Or central Manchester there's a dinosaur exhibit with T-Rex skeleton at the history museum.

The dinosaurs at the natural history museum are really good, several animatronic ones including a huge t-Rex, and lots of replicas, it is certainly worth a visit although of course very far for you. Crystal Palace has Victorian stone dinosaurs but it isn’t central to get to and the old things are faded and overgrown now. Nice place though.

My DS was obsessed for a bit but has come out of it now and is on his emergency services era, so be warned the interest may not be as intense by the time you take a long bus ride to the Jurassic coast!

Nothing special at all but if you're ever heading south on the A19, have a pop here, Middlesbrough:

You may already be aware but there's a cool dinosaur park in Hetland. Its not huge but we've been a few times and the kids love it. It's a full day for us due to travel time but worth the journey.

longdistanceclaraclara · 12/07/2024 16:58

Crystal Palace park if coming to London but they're Victorian, don't move or anything. Think it depends quite how much she likes dinosaurs!

Yorkshire wildlife park has a section with anatomic dinosaurs, a dinosaur themed soft play and a dinosaur themed restaurant

Footprints on Skye
We used to go to Hetland dino park as mentioned up thread a lot. In fact when dc1 was small, we'd leave early when heading down to England so we could visit en route
Definitely the Jurassic Coast. We've had to take dinosaur mad dc1 three times (from Aberdeenshire). The ammonite beach outside Lyme Regis is amazing and there is a really good museum at Kimmeridge bay

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 12/07/2024 17:27

The Yorkshire Natural History Museum is good and has a fossil lab, you can book in to have a session using their equipment to prepare a fossil.

The Yorkshire coast is good too, fairly easy to find fossils yourself plus a few people do tours. Eg Natural Wonders Whitby do group tours or someone like the Yorkshire Fossil Hunter do private walks.

I have a fossil and dinosaur future paleontologist too. My dd is 15 and her love is strong.

I would also add the Jurassic park exhibition is opening at The Trafford Centre on 2nd August.

Oxford natural history museum has an excellent dinosaur display. The museum is free to get into.

hari27 · 12/07/2024 17:57

Oh wow thank you all so so much.

This is all fantastic. I'm going to save and print this.

We all thought it would fade but it's getting stronger. We have moved from toys to learning, she is fascinated by fossils and everything about dinosaurs.

So many cool ideas here.

Has anyone done the sleepover at national museum? She's not seven till next year but might be a good birthday treat?
