Business Travel Nanny vs. School Fine

Have any solo mums hired a short term nanny when they've had to travel for business?

Have you had to travel for business and brought your child with you? Did you get school permission?

My situation is that I don't have any family or friends near enough that could take him to and from school. He will be 8 and can't very well go from one side of London and back by London every day. DS is very anxious and I think it would be very stressful for him to be with a complete stranger even if it was a professional nanny agency. But if I take him with me and get a nanny at the hotel he'll at least know Im nearby (it's at a resort). But he'd miss a week of school.

When we lived in the US and he was 2-3 I took him with me and my employer paid for his travel and a nanny - but there are tax regulations in the US which make that a write-off for the employer up to a certain annual amount.

I'd love to hear from anyone that's been in a similar situation. I've got a few months to figure out what I'm going to do! Eick!

I am aware of nanny agencies that provide this service so there must be a market for it. If there isn't an appropriate/known person to come and stay in your home with him then I'd do exactly what you're planning.

At this age I would travel with him and get a nanny when you are there.

Going forward, it may be an option for him to get used to a couple of different nannies that you may be able to leave him at home with when you are travelling.

Thank you @5475878237NC and @Truetoself . I suppose I'm also wondering if it will be considered exceptional circumstances or if I'll have to pay a fine. But it won't affect his school record. I've already sent a query to a nanny service that regularly provides service at the hotel where the conference is. I can have them supervise him while he does some homework to keep him from getting too behind.
