Anyone else who doesn’t give two shits about football?

Soubriquet · 11/07/2024 20:51

I don’t care about any sports. To me it’s a load of overpaid tossers kicking a ball. That’s it.

I don’t have sports cos it’s cool. I just hate it especially since it was my dad’s entire identity and remember being dragged to the pub on multiple occasions so he can “watch the footy and have a pint”. Boring

Facebook is all “it’s coming home” blah blah blah.

I. Don’t. Care.

I am not a football fan in the slightest. For someone who couldn’t give a shit, I unfortunately know quite a lot about it now due to having a partner who loves it!

marvelminecraftland · 11/07/2024 22:28

I’m not into at all and never watch it but DD loves it and her and DH have been watching all the matches together. When they won this week it made her so happy. For that reason I do like it but feel no need to watch it.

RaininSummer · 11/07/2024 22:37

I hate hearing the crap 'it's coming home' expression. 50 percent chance it bloody isn't. Sick of seeing little kids on the news carrying on about it too. Loathe everything about it.

notatinydancer · 11/07/2024 22:45

No I hate football, there's no sport I like watching.

BeaRF75 · 11/07/2024 22:59

I love most sports, and watch a lot, but football does nothing for me. We haven't seen a single minute of the Euros in our house, and won't be watching the match on Sunday.
I think I really dislike the disproportionate amount of attention that football gets, when there are so many much more interesting sports.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/07/2024 23:09

I hope we win. But I couldn't care less otherwise. I won't be watching.

Soz @delilabell

It's coming home now how my comment might sting. Like 30 years of hurt, or is it 60 now? 🤔 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

58 but that doesnt flow quite as well
I love these threads they come out every time people falling all over themselves to hate football " more 🤣

I think we know that ,the song is 28 years old andcit hasn't come home yet
I'm not a football fan but I like the world Cup and euros, and it will be good if they win.

TakeOnFlea · 11/07/2024 23:35

58 years of hurt 🎶 never stopped me dreaming 🤣

DrCoconut · 11/07/2024 23:48

Not interested in football or any sport. Nor are any of my family. We just carry on as if it's not happening if we have the option.

sleepwouldbenice · 12/07/2024 00:08

Not really into any sport

Don't begrudge them though and am happy to support in general

But (mens England team) football just takes over everything and that's tedious. Bank holiday suggestions ffs....

And they are all overpaid Prima donnas......

QueenJaineApproximately · 12/07/2024 00:21

TakeOnFlea · 11/07/2024 22:06

It's just a parody of football chants and the "football hooligans" of the 90s.

And we all love vindalooooo 🤣

Funnily enough I heard it yesterday on the radio and remembered how funny it was… Fat Les. 😂😂

Brokenpebbles · 12/07/2024 00:21

tillyandmilly · 11/07/2024 21:04

Agree with you - some overpaid bunch of men kicking a ball around a field! couldn’t care less! However like Wimbledon match will be glued to it Sunday

Ah tennis. An overpaid bunch of men hitting a ball backwards and forwards across a field. And slightly less overpaid women doing the same. On terrestrial TV virtually every afternoon and evening for 2 weeks (often 2 channels at once) every single year.

Yuliiy · 12/07/2024 00:24

There’s a lot of sports I like watching, but football is not one of them, just find it boring.

Remaker · 12/07/2024 00:33

I don’t really get the point of threads like this. In a couple of weeks there will be one asking does anyone else not care about the Olympics!

I’m not English but DH is so I’ll be up at 5am on Monday in Australia making tea and keeping my fingers crossed. DS16 and his mates - none of whom are European - have spent a few nights recently staying up all night to watch it. We hosted them during the quarter finals so another lucky family gets a dozen noisy teenagers in their house overnight on Sunday. Luckily it’s school holidays.

You have to remember this is mumsnet ,irl ,we are all getting a bit excited for Sunday and most people will be delighted if England win
But in mumsnet land everyone is falling over themselves to say how much they are not bothered happens every time 🤣

Ah that’s lovely and must have been great fun for him and his classmates. 😀

RainintheDesert · 12/07/2024 08:06

Football these days is so boring. I don't bother anymore. VAR is just one reason I hate it.

burnoutbabe · 12/07/2024 08:08

On a small cruise ship.

The last night will now be pretty much cancelled as half the ship cram into the quiet bar next to my cabin and any other entertainment planned gets cancelled /half attended.

Big cruise ship -five -stick it in one sports bar -but not possible in a tiny ship (which said could not show it due to licensing laws)

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 12/07/2024 08:10

Me 😂. I’ve been present for 3 out of the (I think) 5 games but I’ve only actually watched/ paid attention to the penalties.

littleburn · 12/07/2024 08:12

I'm not that interested in it, but can't get worked up about how not interested in it I am 😁. It'd be nice if we win, but wouldn't affect my mood one way or the other. I just take advantage of the big matches and do my food shop then!

Moonshine5 · 12/07/2024 08:13

@Soubriquet I'm with you

quockerwodger · 12/07/2024 08:13

I dislike the way our whole society is geared up around football and alcohol.
the way that, come Saturday, many people turn into drunken asshats that require extra policing paid for by people who don't care about the football.

I also dislike the obsession side of sport and wonder what is missing in someone's life that they have to attach themselves to the same tribe as other people and fight like animals against other people wearing a different colour.

I believe the fandom of football is caused in part by brainwashing by parents and in part by insecurity of men feeling like they need a 'tribe'
