What do you wish you knew?

What do you wish you knew more about when making big life choices, like what study, where to live, what job to do, school choices, etc, etc..?

Like, I really want to know where the softest water in UK is because I’d like to live somewhere with soft water!

I’d also love to know real facts about schools - e.g. what the rate of neurodiverse kids vs non-neurodiverse kids getting detentions in school. I think tells you much more about a school than how many kids get As at A level.

We get fed so much info on the internet but it’s impossible to find good info about the things I really want to know about!!

How they get the figs into the figroll. At this stage we should all have this information available to us.

These are ones I still don't know!

I wish I could drive
I wish I could manage other people at work
I wish I enjoyed cleaning
I wish I knew how to make decisions
I wish I could cut patterns and use a sewing machine/overlocker
I wish I could dance, and sing
I wish I was good at sport, or just enjoyed any sport
I wish I knew more people I had stuff in common with

I wish I’d had some “common sense” things taught to me at school. I was in the academic set.
Mental arithmetic tricks like the 9x finger trick (learned from my kids) or how to calculate compound interest.
Knife skills and a few basic recipes. I started to be a competent cook after university. DIY, same.
Relationship advice, not just sex education.

My only reggret is that I didn't know what love was until my mid to late 30s. That would have been a life changer had I known this earlier. But yeah, also the fig thing.

This is basically me!

I also wish I knew when to say the right thing at the right time

I wish I could apply makeup properly

I find the questions children come out with lead me to searching for all manner of things. Recent delights include "how many of our house can we bury in the deepest part of the sea" and "why can't we live just off peas". Office conversations are another source of deep dive searches; "why don't we fly round the world pole to pole?" And "is jam healthy or unhealthy?"

BobbyBiscuits · 11/07/2024 11:28

@Needmoresleep89 omg the makeup one is totally me as well. I look like a flipping clown! I've no dexterity at all for precise movements that makeup requires!

the80sweregreat · 11/07/2024 11:29

I'm useless at hair styling and make up and wished I had some flair for both.
Especially eye liner

I’ve made the judgment call that jam counts as one of your 5 a day. Fig rolls too.
