Is it impossible to quickly make a photo slideshow with music? Please help a woman out

Going slowly mad.

I'd like to make a photo slideshow of my DS with all his primary friends from when they were little until now, for when they finish Y6. Partly for the mums and me to have a cry over, as well as a keepsake for them all.

Spent ages pulling all the pics from over the years together but now would like a slideshow that just populates them, in the order they were taken, as you can with a pictures folder on Windows, but I'd like to add two songs to it to play over the show.

Canva I seem to need to drag each photo, like I'm making a photo book and I have 160 pics so no thanks. Google photos I can auto play a slideshow but can't see a way to get them into date order. I also joined YouTube Prem to download the songs needed for Google but it won't download the songs to my PC or upload to my Google Drive so I really don't see the point. But am wondering if I'm doing something gapingly wrong there.

Has anyone done this without it taking another billion hours to sort the photos in the correct order please? And if there's any help song adding wise that would also be greatly appreciated. I have two specific friendship/milestone songs in mind, rather than just wanting background music. Thank you!

Do you have an iPhone or iPad? I use iMovie.

I don't, no. Google Pixel. There must be something equivalent though, I'll check - my mind jumps to YouTube as it's a Google product but feel like there should be something more specific. Feel like I've read about sooo many options now without finding the magic solution! Does iMovie let you populate automatically and shuffle the pics by date? Plus add music?

I can save music files to My Files on my phone. I then make a folder containing my selected pics and I can sort by date. Then in iMovie I just select the folder and edit to add music etc. It’s very easy!

Edited to add: just asked DH as he has an Android phone. He said he’s used something called YouCut in the past but not in a few years.

Thanks lots @DoYouSmokePaul! iMovie sounds very easy, amazing actually. I can't believe how much more time consuming this is than I was expecting! Will check out YouCut

I use clipchamp for all my class assemblies. It's got a lovely AI feature that will do most of the work for you.

I have a pixel too (but love iMovie for work slideshows).

If you open your photo app there's a plus at the top next your face and you have the option to make a new highlight video. It asks if you want to search but you can also select photos from your camera roll. It's quite straightforward and you can add a soundtrack from your own music or their themes.

@Sunnysidegold this sounds brilliant! Going to try it properly at the weekend. Thank you!

And thank you everyone 😓

I'd probably use PowerPoint.
