Lentils- so many

I cooked expensive brown lentils with good chicken stock in the slow cooker
which was inadvertently left on overnight. Now I have mush although
it smells good.
What can I do with this? reasonably?
I don’t want to bin it as full of goodness
I have more stock, (cannot throw out a carcass without
pulverising it and boiling up for 3 days at least)
it is too wet to make patties for instance
why do I start these endeavours when lentils now come in tins

Add some spices and make a dahl. Some Indian dahls are more like soup in texture, they don't need to be as thick as the ones we get over here.

GameOfJones · 10/07/2024 12:32

Haha! I would add some to bolognese/chilli/curries etc. You could portion it up and freeze it to use at a later date in anything with a sauce. Or add more stock and make soup. Lots and lots of soup.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/07/2024 12:38

Add a bit more stock from a cube, maybe some cooked spinach or cauliflower, and eat with naan bread.

Dahl.

Lentil soup? Add a little water, bay leaf, cooked orzo pasta, a good glut of olive oil, squeeze of lemon, the most comforting thing imaginable

WetBandits · 10/07/2024 12:58

Can you put some chicken in there to soak up some of the wetness? Or a load of veggies and make a chunky daal?

vix3rd · 10/07/2024 13:04

Soup.
Add water, carrots, onions, leeks, little bit of turnip, a bacon joint and boil.
Lift out the bacon joint & whizz up the soup. Strip the bacon joint & add the meat to the soup.

Freeze some for lunches.

DontThinkJustDo · 10/07/2024 13:07

Add to any combination of veggies to bulk out soup. Peppers, squash, carrots, add some red thai curry sauce and coconut milk. Delish.

Notstrongandstable · 10/07/2024 13:07

Lentil lasagne(better than it sounds!). Add cooked lentils to a bowl with passata, crushed garlic, EVOO, seasoning, bit of basil. You can add grated squash, lemon zest and olives if you like (Anna Jones quick lasagne recipe).
Layer it up with pasta sheets and finish with a cheese sauce. It works!

Fry off in olive oil pancetta, leek, garlic and add in the lentils, serve with good crusty bread or ciabatta

Perfectlystill · 10/07/2024 13:31

Have with sausages and green veg.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 10/07/2024 13:40

Freeze portions to add into other meals.

Dontliketheheat · 10/07/2024 13:41

Lentil Dahl or soup and freeze the excess

BigDahliaFan · 10/07/2024 13:49

I'd add more veggies and make soup. And freeze.

Divide into 2 and make one more of a mushroom, parmesan, spinach and chilli soup. ‘www.dorothy-porker.com/nigel-slaters-bacon-lentil-soup/

The other half fry some onions in curry paste and other veggies and make a curry soup.

Or - make dal.

Chocolately · 10/07/2024 14:06

Wow, loads of great ideas here! I've got a big bag of lentils needs using up.
Thanks all.

RookieMa · 10/07/2024 14:30

i can’t eat spicey food or I get the shits. Indian food isn’t for me

HanaPales · 10/07/2024 14:47

A brown mush is what my lentils turn out like any time I cook them - aren't they supposed to be like that?!
I'd serve them on a jacket potato with crumbled cheese on top.

Gettingbysomehow · 10/07/2024 14:50

Just throw them out, whatever you attempt to make with them will not be nice. Yes its a waste but too bad.
trying to find something to make with them is a waste of your time.
Goodbye lentils.

CurlewKate · 10/07/2024 15:08

What we're planning to do with them? I would make dal- which is a brilliant thing in the freezer-and soup-ditto.

Lebanese have a lentil soup with spinach and cumin. Serve with a squeeze of lemon or a dollop of yogurt. My grandma used to make this for us in the winter.
