She's had a rollercoaster school career, and then we discovered she had ADHD and dyspraxia and probably dyscalculia. She's now ditched all the subjects that she found so hard, worked really intensely through all Year 12 and we got her projected A Level grades this week. 3 x A stars. I'm proud and amazed.

And I hope you don't mind me telling you lot, but all the grandparents are either dead or so lost to dementia that they will never know how well she has done.

Huge congratulations to you and your daughter OP. 🌟

Ratfinkstinkypink · 10/07/2024 11:04

That's amazing, well done to your clever girl and to you for supporting her through this.

Seeline · 10/07/2024 11:07

That's great - it's so lovely when their hard work is rewarded!

Has she any ideas for the next steps? If she is looking at uni, check out different unis student support services, as well as looking into DSA (Disabled Students Allowance) which should help with additional support for ADHD, dyspraxia etc through the supply of specialist software, mentoring etc.

Oh congrats OP. That is huge news. I know it’s hard when you can’t tell people IRL. But we are all thrilled for you. Make sure you contact the Uni early to get support in place - DD’s Uni have amazing support - her friends have accessed it and she had some support due to dyslexia but the added support for ADHD and other conditions is wonderful.

If your DD is planning on moving away to University, I would strongly recommend that you contact the disability support centre to get accommodation as close to the campus as possible.

Congrats again, when you are ready to move into planning mode, post again as there are lots of people on here who have been through the system and can help to guide you.

Thank you everyone - and now that she has a diagnosis school have been great and have told her about the disability support etc. My main aim is to get her into at least semi-catered accommodation for the first year, but will definitely take all the advice you have!
