I can't say this anywhere else but I am really proud of DD

She's had a rollercoaster school career, and then we discovered she had ADHD and dyspraxia and probably dyscalculia. She's now ditched all the subjects that she found so hard, worked really intensely through all Year 12 and we got her projected A Level grades this week. 3 x A stars. I'm proud and amazed.

And I hope you don't mind me telling you lot, but all the grandparents are either dead or so lost to dementia that they will never know how well she has done.

Well done to her OP. I too have ADHD and know what a struggle it is.
She has a bright future ahead of her

hattie43 · 10/07/2024 11:32

Fantastic

Whatkindofworld · 10/07/2024 11:32

So impressive. Well done to both of you.

That’s amazing. I bet she feels sooo much more confident in herself now with support in place.

(On a side note intrigued as to all the deleted posts by a poster!)

Daisymay2 · 10/07/2024 11:35

Well done her! That’s so good.
DS was diagnosed with dyslexia with a bit of dyspraxia in the October of Y13.
if you want any advice, if she is going to University make sure that she and you make an appointment to see the Learning Support team at Open Days. There was huge variation between them , and influenced his final choices. At the time Lancaster , Leeds and Nottingham were really helpful.

LawrieForShepherdsBoy · 10/07/2024 11:35

Well done to your dd. She sounds awesome 💕

Allthehorsesintheworld · 10/07/2024 11:38

Brilliant, wonderful achievement.
Here's to your daughter 👏 and all the other youngsters who work so hard to overcome adversity. 👏

Pinkyhere · 10/07/2024 11:44

Amazing!
Well done to her. Hope you both feel really proud.

badgeronthedrums · 10/07/2024 11:46

@Daisymay2. Thank you - we will. And good to know that Lancaster were helpful, we're off there on Saturday!

I was undiagnosed autistic and ADHD and went to Cambridge. They're pretty good at all the practical stuff like feeding and housing you. They even have people to clean your room for you. I'm not sure I would have done as well somewhere else as I'm still hopeless at all that stuff now!

With those predictions she could definitely look at Oxbridge.

Congrats to you and your daughter.

Shufflebumnessie · 10/07/2024 11:48

Fantastic news, no wonder you're so proud!! Congratulations to your DD gor putting in the hard work, and to you for giving her the support she needed.

ChimbarasiKotapaxi · 10/07/2024 11:54

Happyearlyretirement · 10/07/2024 12:02

jannier · 10/07/2024 12:05

Brilliant wishing her every success in the future.

WiredForRobins · 10/07/2024 12:06

A fantastic achievement for your DD and I am glad you are able to share it somewhere. Enjoy Lancaster, it will show your DD what her hard work has done for her too, that uni is completely achievable when at one time she probably didn't think she could get there.

TamingShewolf · 10/07/2024 12:06

I get it OP, and huge congratulations to you, your daughter and anyone else in the household! If your family is anything like mine, the education 'rollercoaster' affects us all.

I am hoping that I will be able to post something similar in 2 years time (it won't be those results, but getting any A levels would be an incredible achievement for my dd).

I'm so happy for you 😊

WithASpider · 10/07/2024 12:06

Fantastic for your DD!

My ASD DD is going into year 3 at Leicester. I can't fault their support team. DSA have been fantastic for her too, suggesting and providing loads of software that we weren't aware of before.

godmum56 · 10/07/2024 12:06

I think that's amazing, well done to her and to her supportive family

badgeronthedrums · 10/07/2024 12:07

@IdisagreeMrHochhauser I know exactly what you mean. I most likely have ADHD and went to Cambridge, and with hindsight I cannot believe how much undiagnosed neurodiversity there was just in my college. Three of my friends have said to me separately that they think they are autistic. And yes, they're pretty good at keeping people like that alive so that they can get on with being academic! She is going to go for it, but hoping the GCSE results don't count against her.

Huge congratulations to your dd and you op! Really fantastic news.

As a parent of a late diagnosed dd with ASD at uni, I can really sympathise with what you have been through.

One thing; if you don’t have many friends or family members around you, make sure you reserve a bit of time to develop yourself and your own interests. We put so much in to supporting our ND dc that it can be a shock to the system when they leave home. Relish this time for you 💐

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 10/07/2024 12:12

I think they would look kindly on someone who has problem solved and applied themselves to figure out how to perform at their best between GCSEs and A levels. She could explain it in her personal statement. Personally I would be more impressed by that than someone who had consistently found things easy.

I was at college with someone who used to wander around singing to himself and most people just accepted that that was what he was like and paid little heed to it. I don't remember anyone remarking on it or labelling him with anything but presumably he is also autistic. I didn't get my diagnosis until I was 40.

DoggerelBank · 10/07/2024 12:14

How lovely to read this! Congratulations to your DD for her resilience!

mcmooberry · 10/07/2024 12:20

You can tell us, well done her!!
