I can't say this anywhere else but I am really proud of DD

She's had a rollercoaster school career, and then we discovered she had ADHD and dyspraxia and probably dyscalculia. She's now ditched all the subjects that she found so hard, worked really intensely through all Year 12 and we got her projected A Level grades this week. 3 x A stars. I'm proud and amazed.

And I hope you don't mind me telling you lot, but all the grandparents are either dead or so lost to dementia that they will never know how well she has done.

Congrats. I have a SEN uni student DD. Hated most schools, loved University.
Make sure your daughter ticks the box so the uni can communicate with you as the parent advocate. Otherwise you will not be informed of any struggles.

There is a list of commonly used Mumsnet acronyms here. HTH

Thank you for this! I had always wondered what HTH meant!!

Well done to your DD, this gives me so much hope, DD has struggled, moved schools (bullied), not overly hopeful about GCSE results but she has a place at college, have already involved pastoral care, they assured me they will pick up ‘anything’ , DD has a determination to do well with her new start, I hope I have good news like yours to share in a couple of years.

freespirit333 · 10/07/2024 12:47

Huge congratulations to your DD, and you! I have a DS with ADHD and DCD, this is so reassuring.

GoodnightJude1 · 10/07/2024 13:06

@Mrsredlipstick , your DD sounds similar to me.

A-levels are a crap and frustrating experience for many bright neurodiverse kids because they primarily test your ability to on memorise and regurgitate information. In contrast, university courses often place a much stronger emphasis on testing a student's analytical ability, which is where many people with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD, etc. tend to excel.

I have dyslexia and dyspraxia and very mediocre A-Levels, but I went on to get the highest overall result in my University's department for my BA and MA, and then on to do a PhD.

IamaRevenant · 10/07/2024 13:20

Massive congratulations to your DD OP, that is amazing and an inspiration 👏

Congratulations! Flowers

StarCourt · 10/07/2024 14:14

@badgeronthedrums i'm so happy for you both. My DD has exactly the same diagnoses aged 15 and I'd love to think she could do this

Cattery · 10/07/2024 14:26

I’d be thrilled to bits. Brilliant xx

Phineyj · 10/07/2024 14:52

There's a special box on the UCAS form for these situations.

Well done your DD!

Cuppateatea · 10/07/2024 14:54

badgeronthedrums · 10/07/2024 16:05

@StarCourt I very much hope that she finds the road which works for her in the same way DD has done, and that you can be starting a thread like this in a few years time!

Huge congrats to your dd, she deserves it!

( my dd similar, left school with 3 GCSE's, a new sixth form diagnosed irlens, she resat a gcse alongside her 3 btecs and is predicted top marks with a uni place. 16 does not define you!)

Hope your dd has an amazing summer

Slatkater · 10/07/2024 16:28

🥇 for your daughter & 💐 for you. Tell her congratulations & what an awesome achievement.

Mrsredlipstick · 11/07/2024 08:14

@AnonSoc its interesting that these ND kids thrive when they are not pushed to conform.
My DD did similar to you, a first for her foundation degree and offered PhD funding straight away. She's changing uni this September so I hope all will be well.

Grumblevision · 11/07/2024 09:21

She's obviously had some stellar parental support along the way OP. Congrats to her, and to you. ❤️
