Hot tub at home

If you have a hot tub at home can you let me know what you think? Do you love it? Did you get one but maybe don’t use it as much as you thought?. We love a good hot tub, generally it’s a must if we’re booking a mini break away so are considering getting on for the garden. We are quite secluded so I don’t think peeping neighbours are going to be an issue but it’s not a little expense so I want feeeback from people who have them.

In our home, we use it all the time for about 2 weeks, and then the novelty wears off and we don't use it often at all. We then look at the smart meter reading for the electric and end up turning the hot tub off! Personally, it's a regretted purchase, we haven't used it enough to justify the cost of the tub and the running of it. We set it to 36 deg and it is currently costing about £3.50 a day to run. If we knock it up to 38 deg, its almost £4, £5 per day.

Also, the chemical management becomes very tiresome, very quickly.

I think you can hire them, so why not try that for a few months.

My neighbours had one but thankfully it seems to have gone. I think by the end it was just a very expensive heated bed for their cat. The noise of the constantly running pump was really irritating.

We love ours but its just outside the patio doors so easy to pop in and out. Its inflatable so it goes away October - May (ish)
It does take maintenanace and its not cheap but its really nice to sit and chill in with DH (no sexy stuff allowed) as there are no distractions

We got rid of ours: so expensive to run and uses so much water (which felt very wrong in drought years), and a hassle to maintain.

GenerousGardener · 10/07/2024 10:17

My DD and SIl have one. He pays £350 per month in electricity. Plus all the chemical costs.

FlangeBoil · 10/07/2024 10:27

I have one. I check chemical levels every Saturday, i only heat it when i know it will get used so it doesn't cost a fortune. I use it year round, it's lovely in the winter and great a little cooler in the summer evenings. DD(4) loves it too, big enough for her to splash around in!

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 10/07/2024 10:30

I looove mine. It’s a proper Jacuzzi make and was expensive but is so quiet when not in use. It heats up really quickly and is insulated very well so maintains the heat. My sons and their families are big fans too. It’s so relaxing 😊. It probably does cost a bit to run but we had a big pool in our last house so in comparison it’s much cheaper and easier to maintain, we get more use out of it too.

We have a Hot Spring Spa. Very expensive up front but last forever. Totally silent when not running.

These electric costs PP have stated are mad. I assume they are for cheaper makes but ours costs 50p a day to keep hot at 40c. We have no outlays on chemicals as we have a salt/ozone sanitising system built in so no faffing about balancing the water.

We love it. It was a godsend during lockdown.

Mumtum76 · 10/07/2024 16:00

thanks for the replies. We are looking to rent one before we buy, the company we have seen do rent to buy so we can keep for 6 months before we have to commit to actually buying it outright which should give us an idea of costs. @deviantfeline will look at the hot springs version. The one we’re currently looking at is a rotaspa that claims to be 70p per day which if it is I don’t mind but £3.50/ £4 is ridiculous!

We’re obsessed with ours. Lazy Spa St Moritz. It’s just outside the patio doors. We’re in all the time. DH does all the maintenance though Grin I don’t even open the clasps!

That's the one my neighbours had - just outside their patio doors.
I hope your neighbours aren't being driven mad by the constant humming of the pump!

We only have one close neighbour and they have a hot tub too! So it’s fair do’s.
