to get the sofa reupholstered?

We are moving house soon and we are buying the current ones sofa for an extremely reasonable price. It's a large corner recliner and then a single recliner.
Our sofa is pretty damaged so was happy to purchase theirs so reasonably and our current sofa would be to small for the room as well

The sofa is not the colour I would usually go for, but I love the shape and everything else. It fits perfectly in the room and is in excellent condition

We intended to keep of for a few months then purchase a new one, but now I'm wondering if its worth getting the sofa upholstered instead ?

Depends what you paid for it. Covers are so expensive..i bought a emerald velvet sofa and it wasn't cheap..i asked for quote for other neutral slip covers incase change decor....theyd have cost 300 less than sofa cost! I just thought...buy large throws instead..

I had a quote to re upholster a 3 seater sofa, it was way more expensive than buying a new one. The guy said it’s the labour time involved in taking it apart, recovering and putting back together.

If you like the style I'd get it reupholstered x

Getting new covers is different to getting it reupholstered, very expensive to reupholster it.

I wouldn't even think about it until you have been sitting on it for a few weeks and you know it's comfortable and something that's good enough quality that it's worth re-upholstering.

Good advice. Reupholstering is expensive but doesn't always cost more than buying a new sofa.
I wouldn't pay for reupholstering if you are only planning on keeping the sofa for a short time though

Get it reupholstered.

Yes it's cheaper to replace it with a low quality sofa but a decent sofa probably costs around £3k now.

I had a 3 seater and 2 seater reupholstered in a very good quality velvet - not cheap - £1800 but she cheaper than buying new sofas and they were design classics.

@Daffodil1993xxxx I had a three seater reupholstered 7/8 years ago, it took a couple of months to do it, and cost well over a thousand pounds. I'd guess the price had gone up since. I definitely wouldn't do it again.
We had to reconfigure the living room so ended up selling the sofa, I think I got £60 for it ( true mid century piece)

We had a large cuddler chair & footstool reupholstered about 10-years ago, cost just shy of £1k but gave them a new lease of life. They were such good quality and comfortable that it made sense as to replace them with something new would have cost over twice that.
We stopped short of having the (matching) 3-seater sofa done at the same time, not due to cost (that was going to cost another £1.5k) but we knew we would be moving in a few years and the sofa was so large we wondered if we would be keeping it long-term (it was in our conservatory).

Of course it helps if the furniture is good quality in the first place.

Whataretalkingabout · 10/07/2024 11:01

A good overstuffed mid-century armchair is worth being reupholstered .
Whereas a contemporary sofa probably not. The bare bones of a sofa are probably worn out. It is not worth the cost of materials and labor.
I have reupholstered quite a few pieces myself because I enjoyed the challenge and I hate waste. But in your case, buy yourself a new sofa.
