How did someone change my subscription package on Netflix ?

Got an email this morning saying my subscription package had changed from standard to premium and a plus one person added. The name of the plus one was a long jumble of letters in Brazil. Cost had gone from around £8 to £22 per month. No one in the family has admitted to doing this so can only presume some kind of scam. I contacted Netflix who couldn’t tell me how it had happened so I cancelled the subscription immediately. Also contacted my bank who were not that helpful but said no money had left my bank account. Presumably the person who’d done it thought I wouldn’t notice for a while ? I haven’t used Netflix anywhere outside the house so I’m a bit bewildered as to how it’s happened. Anyone any ideas ?

I was getting this regular. For my Disney as well. I came out of my emails and checked on my actual accounts in my apps…. They were scam emails. If I’d have clicked on the link within the email god only knows what would have happened.

Wafflefudge · 09/07/2024 18:38

Yeah sounds like the email is the scam.

So Netflix said the subscription was changed that’s what I can’t understand. And the actual email was a Netflix one.

Netflix’s security isn’t brilliant. Every so often there’s a hack and they’ll tell you to change your password. This has happened to me 10 x until I began to use strong unique passwords.

I’d say your Netflix account was hacked and they amended the subscription.

This happened to me about a month ago, but Netflix was really helpful and helped me reinstate my account and reduce my package back to basic. Was pretty annoying as I lost my viewing history.

I also think netflix security is rubbish, I had someone access my account from aboard and when I rang them they said the password must have come from me which is absolutely hasn't. Even my children don't know the password

Fingers crossed no reoccurance since I changed it

Your password was leaked and sold to someone in Brazil for pennies so they could get Netflix at a big discount.

It happens on all the subscription sites - I found an extra random person on my Spotify family plan once. Change your netflix password and the password on your email account after running a virus scan on your computer.

If you use the same password on any other site change that too. You can often find out what site leaked your password on https://haveibeenpwned.com which can help you narrow down what other passwords might need changing.

Netflix can be hacked, mine was a few weeks ago, the profile pics and names when I logged in had changed.
Probably your details were sold at a bargain rate online somewhere.
Best thing to do is change email if possible and passwords.
Luckily it seemed it had only just happened as nothing had changed in my continue watching section.

This happened to me as well but Netflix sorted it quickly
