Tui have cancelled our summer holiday!

So, we had one holiday booked this year - to Ibiza at the end of August. Yesterday an email from Tui landed in my inbox blandly stating BA had cancelled the flight so I could go onto their website to amend to a different holiday (they'd graciously waive the fee) or get a refund. No offering up of alternative flights/dates, etc...

Clearly, we were quite upset about this, especially as it's not so easy as amending it when you're six weeks out from the dates so there is limited availability and everything has gone up £2k in the intervening months.

Anyway, we had been having doubts about the holiday anyway (a big AI, which isn't our normal thing), so have decided to go for the refund and try, at this late date, to find an alternative.

So.... I may be looking for the holy grail (especially given it's now July) but if anyone knows of any nice two bed apartments/villas with a pool, ideally a walk from shops and restaurants (and ideally a beach) they can hit me with links for that would be amazing! We'd need two bedrooms and ideally not Turkey or Greece (a member of our party doesn't like it too hot) although I would consider. We will have children (not babies or toddlers or teens) with us. Budget up to £4.5 inc flights.

We can't just wait for a last minute deal as we need to arrange animal and elderly relative care for while we're away.

TIA!

Is it for 2 ads and 2 ch?

Yes it is. Sorry - should have been clearer.

Thanks, that looks like a good option.

Hotel Boabab Suites in Tenerife might fit the bill. Appreciate the island had a lot of bad press recently but it’s far away from the dodgy end and some really lovely shops and restaurants in walking distance.

Perplexed20 · 09/07/2024 16:40

1 or 2 weeks?

cloudy477654 · 09/07/2024 16:46

Oh no that's awful! Try a search for anywhere for your dates on Jet2 they have some good last minute deals on at the moment.
Canaries are usually cooler than Greece

Tui should be offering you something comparable as an alternative surely, regardless of what the price is now (similar flight duration, dates, same number of people etc).

Bjorkdidit · 09/07/2024 17:04

We've also been to Villas Puerto Rubicon linked above, nice and well located with supermarket, bakery, restaurants and beach all in walking distance.

You can book direct or through most of the package operators.

You'd think, wouldn't you. But apparently not and they don't have to as it's due to BA cancelling the flight (even though I booked it as a whole package through Tui).

1 or 2 weeks?

10 days - 2 weeks depending on price and dates v back to school dates.

If this was available for ten days it would be absolutely perfect.

Have just had a look at this - very interesting option I didn't really know existed. Thank you. Have sent to DH for further consideration.

Edited

I've also been near these villas and they are decently priced and in a great location. You can book direct and sort out your flights separately.

Thanks all, discussed with DH and have just booked the Baobab. Compromised on eight nights but went for a two bedroomed with a private pool. More than we had hoped to spend but very grateful we could get it this late in the day and a much better fit for us as a family I think than our original booking. So thank you very much Mumsnet and especially @Vikingmama79 !

Important to know if it's a package holiday or a linked travel arrangement.

If it's a package holiday TUI should have offered a replacement flight to the same venue in the first instance.

AutismHelp1980 · 10/07/2024 11:37

Look at Puerto Mogan in Gran Canaria.

It was a package, but looking at the links I don't think they did anything legally wrong. They said they had no availability on alternative flights and offered us the full refund instead. They would have helped look for an alternative holiday - but at the current prices, not those back in March - and, frankly, at this point I didn't want to deal with Tui ever again. And we're more than 14 days out so no compensation.

I had a rubbish expereince with Tui over Covid and against my better judgement used them this time as well. Never will again!

Anyway, we've booked an alternative with Jet2 now - it's just cost us more money because now we've booking six weeks out.

@Doireallywanttodothis Just seen you got booked up, hope you have a great time.

Not sure if you are familiar with area but if not can recommend a walk up to Caleta, some lovely restaurants there. Also El Makami and Orange Cafe are two of our favourites- views of sunset are just incredible.

The Dukes shop lovely for a walk around, kids love Siam park and Monkey world and finally highly recommend Whale Watch tours for their dolphin spotting excursion- amazing ! Hope Boabab fits the bill.

Thanks @Vikingmama79 we've never been before (flying out in a few days) so these are very handy tips!
