What's the most effective aerobic exercise for fat loss?

I go to the gym 3 times a week at least, mostly to lift heavy weights or incorporate strength training. I do try to weave in skipping as a cardio thing.

But I notice my thighs and ass are gaining fat/weight, which is as much to do with diet (I do really try and don't think I eat a lot of cals) as well as prob not doing aerobic training as much as used to.

I have a bit of a crap knee. Any suggestions for how I can easily incorporate aerobic training into my week - and the best sort of shorter, focussed sessions? I'm post menopausal, so don't want to increase my cortisol levels.

Swimming - because you’re using calories trying to keep yourself warm as well as moving. Easy on the joints too.

Are you sure your bum and thighs aren’t just getting bigger due to muscle?

I do try to swim at least once a week, but I'm such a slow fecking swimmer! Old woman breast stroke. Does that still count?

Yeah, the trainer whose app I use said that even the 'bros' (I assuming meaning men who are training much harder and more effectively than me 🙄) don't see muscle growth quickly in that area.

Hmm, I’m not sure I agree with your trainer. Bum and thighs is the one area I DO build muscle quickly. Women are different to men…

Anyway, yeah I reckon old lady swimming (same here) works. You probably know that the most effective route to fat loss is reducing calorie intake (in my case carbs especially), not that I’m advocating that, just saying it’ll be more effective than exercise. Depressing how much exercise is needed to burn off one snack.

How much walking do you do?

Swimming, doing breast stroke is terrible for your knees if they are slightly dodgy to start with.
You need to do front crawl legs with breast stroke arms, easier said than done though.

I aim for 8K steps a day - sometimes a lot more, occasionally less.

Interesting about knees and breast stroke. Alas, I'm rubbish at crawl
