3 year old gasping/gulping occasionally but otherwise normally

I'm not sure how to properly explain this but a week ago my recently turned 3 year old started gasping or gulping occasionally while she is awake. She is otherwise her usual chatty/playful self and she doesn't do it while she is sleeping. At first I thought it was maybe a habit she had picked up from someone but it just seems to happen when she is sitting down/chatting. Today I noticed she did it about five times in a row but her breathing is otherwise fine. I have tried googling but not come up with anything. Has anyone come across this before? Is it worth taking her to the GP? It's just come on last week and because she has otherwise been normal I haven't thought much of it but am now wondering if I should get her checked out.

I would definitely get this checked out - at the very least, call 111 and explain it to them so that they can either give reassurance or refer you to someone to do the checking.

That almost sounds as though she has something she’s swallowed that’s lodged in her throat, but could be an infection - or just something that she’s going through a phase of doing “for the fun of it”.

It does sound odd though.

Thanks @ditzzy i did wonder about swallowing something but she's been eating drinks like normal and not mentioning any pain in her throat. Thanks for the reassurance about getting it checked out, that's what I will do. I just didn't want to waste time
