Serum folate?

Is serum folate the same as ferritin?

A friend got turned down for an elective procedure because her 'ferritin was 19 and borderline'

I've just looked at my bloodtest from 2023 (I was put on folic acid)
And it was mine was <2

But can that be the same thing as it say normal range is 3.9- 20

And she was told 19 was 'borderline low'

Surely 19 would be near the top end of healthy?

Can anyone read blood test results please?

Folate isn't the same as Ferritin. Folate looks at Folic Acid and Ferritin looks at iron.

So your very low folate is different to her low ferritin.

Thankyou.

Do you know if ferritin would be on a full blood panel? Because I can't find it in my results, could it be called something else?

Ferritin normally needs requesting separately, it's not routinely part of full blood count

As above, beyond both being requirement to make red blood cells they're unrelated

It's not a routine part of full blood counts, it's only specifically requested if looking for the cause of anaemia..it will be called ferratin
