Is the two week wait two weeks?

One of my DDs has been referred for an ultrasound and to see a a dr under the two week wait for a lump in her armpit.

Is DD likely to be seen within two weeks, or does it generally take longer?

My urgent referral for US took 5 weeks. Consequent urgent CT referral 16 weeks.

All the best to your daughter.

That’s really poor @MrsSkylerWhite , were your referrals also under the cancer pathway?

It would depend if it’s urgent or two week pathway urgent.

For example, I had an urgent referral (not 2 week pathway) to gastro a few years ago (during COVID). The actual wait to see the consultant was about 5 months.

When he saw me and looked at my bloods, I think I went on the 2 week pathway. I had a new round of bloods, a CT scan and a colonoscopy, with follow up appointment all within 2 weeks. Actually, they had a colonoscopy for me within about 4 days, but I couldn’t make it and they were a bit annoyed with me. When they need it to be very urgent because it warrants it, I think they can often make it happen.

I was fine ish btw, I do have a diagnosed GI issue but it’s not the cancer I think they suspected from the bloods.

Good to hear you didn’t have cancer @mindutopia .
My other DD had an urgent referral to gastro during covid for suspected IBD, she should have been seen within 4 weeks but after 3 weeks her referral was still at the bottom of a pile waiting to be triaged. I rang her GP to ask them to move it along and they advised taking her to A&E as she was really unwell at this point - I did and she was admitted.

The fact that things haven’t run as they should in the past for us is what’s making me wonder if DD2 will be seen in a timely manner.

It varies from hospital to hospital and department to department, there's no one answer.
My recent referral was to gynae and was first seen in a week, then downgraded to a routine issue / procedure.

Yes, the US identified a kidney tumour. The CT is to determine if benign or malignant.

I had breast cancer in 2016. I had mammogram, biopsy and surgery within 5 weeks. Things are very different now.

I suspect this is probably true, though.

I had to have an emergency scan and I got my appointment within 10 days our local hospital does evenings and weekends.

Fingers crossed for your Dd it comes through quickly and all is well.

2ww was scrapped a couple of months ago - now it's supposed to be cancer diagnosed or ruled out within 28 days.

in theory that is better as you could wait 2w for the first appt but months for the necessary tests (as the clock stopped at the first appt) but I very much doubt that 28d target will be met.

hope your daughter is ok OP

I was put on the 2 week pathway for a lump under my arm, the appointment came through about one and a half weeks after the doctors appointment and the hospital appointment was two and a half weeks after the docs appointment.

Hope everything is ok for your DD and you aren't waiting too long

Thanks all, DD has a scan booked for Tuesday. No appointment made for dr yet but have been reassured it will be within the 2 weeks.
