Think I've been forgotten ☹️

Had to go into maternity triage today at 29 weeks for suspected fluid leak. Got here at 1530, finally seen by a doctor at about 1800 and told I'd need to be admitted.

They've now closed the daytime triage area, and I'm just sat in this empty ward waiting. There's a guy still sat at reception and he has no idea what's going on. Says a midwife might be trying to organise a bed.

There's no midwives or patients in this area now. I'm the only one here. I've not been offered anything to eat or drink. I'm starving. My hormones are making me extra sensitive and I just want to cry. Feeling so forgotten ☹️ I don't have the energy to wander round the hospital to try and find a midwife or doctor.

DH is putting our toddler to bed a 45 minute drive away. Feeling very sorry for myself.

I will obviously go in search of answers at some point soon, just wallowing for a little first.

I hope the burger arrives soon and all is well. For future reference Deliveroo will deliver to hospitals if you have it locally. You just need to go to meet the driver outside so it depends if you're able.

Oh that's great info, thank you! I was going to say I'll use this next time, but I hope there isn't a next time.

That’s absolutely awful that you’ve been left for so long and not offered food. I had a long wait in the day unit and the midwives came and took a food order for me and gave me a comfier chair.

Glad your partner will be there soon. 🤞 you get a bed soon!

How big is the hospital? There should be at least one place still open serving hot food, they have to for staff working overnight.

Also most wards/ areas have a patient kitchen with tea/squash/biscuits. Or if you can find the kitchen the catering staff use there should be sandwiches in the fridge. Or tbh ask the guy on reception if there is anything you can have - I work in the hospital in admin, if a pregnant woman asked me for food I’d 100% go find them some.

They actually don't! My DIL is and end of life care nurse and works nights with NOTHING available but vending machines which are full of unhealthy rubbish

nothing practical I can do but have a hand hold.

Thank you for this, this is very reassuring 💛

I'm already worried about this baby because he's very small and we've already been referred for specialist care. They did a quick bedside scan earlier and there's still water around the baby, which is amazing news. Clinging on to the good things.

I was having growth scans, and they thought my baby was going to be small. Then my waters broke at 34 weeks, and he stayed put for a further 2 weeks. Fingers crossed for you, OP.

Just wanted to send you good thoughts and tell you I just tucked my 9 year old 29+6 weeker into bed for a positive story, if it does happen you are 100% in the right place and everything crossed for you here and a hand hold x

TheChosenTwo · 07/07/2024 21:46

Glad there’s a plan in place now.
I was going to suggest going home and getting them to call you when they had found a bed for you.
Sorry it’s been so crap for you and hope you enjoy your burger. Probably done you a favour anyway, hospital food isn’t up to much!

oObyeOo · 07/07/2024 21:47

It’s 6hrs since you got there. Have they found a bed?… I’d be tempted to go home

Thanks so much everyone, I appreciate every comment.

I've just been given a bed, and my DH has brought the goods. I've got my laptop set up with The Office playing on netflix, and I've just had a burger, chips and some chicken for good measure (this baby only gets the best nutrition). It's been a long day, will be a long night no doubt, but things are much better than they were.

I hope you manage some sleep and all is well with baby.

@Bemusedandconfusedagain thank you 💛

An update for anyone around: Things have taken a downward turn again. I'm genuinely baffled by the way things have been run today.

I take daily medication to support this pregnancy, I needed it for the entirety of my last pregnancy (my only successful one to date) and have taken it every day throughout my current pregnancy. I was told at 6pm by the doctor that they'd get some prescribed for me to take while I'm an inpatient, only to be told at almost 1am after hours of chasing (when I should be sleeping), that they don't have any. I didn't ask DH to bring any when he came as the doctor said she'd have it for me when I got to the ward.

I'm seriously flabbergasted. And ridiculously exhausted. This used to be a great maternity unit, it's sad to see how it's changed.

That's really frustrating
I would try and get some sleep and chase in the morning, and maybe get DH to bring them as a back up if he can?
Best wishes (I was a prem baby that they said would be small in height, I'm now 5ft 10!)

Lostworlds · 08/07/2024 05:18

This happened to me in hospital and I was told by the midwife to get my dh to bring some up in the morning. It’s annoying and frustrating but you can take it todah and be okay. Hope you’ve managed to get some sleep!
