Why are some hangovers so MUCH worse?

Today I’ve had the hangover from hell. I was drinking Prosecco last night then started drinking beer, but I feel like I have drunk more on previous ocassions and suffered less. Anyway when I got home I was very sick, and felt completely out of it, basically just collapsed over my toilet and bathroom floor.

I managed to get into bed but from the hours of 4am and midday I was basically being sick every 10-30 minutes. I hadn’t eaten anything since lunch yesterday (not a good idea I know) so it was literally just yellow bile (sorry TMI).

Finally feeling better it’s really unusual for me to be sick throughout the night.

Anyway I am seriously considering giving up alcohol after today. It just makes you feel awful, it’s poison.

Well you mixed the grape and the grain for a start.

I used to get horrendous hangovers, haven't drank in 3 years and I don't miss it at all! Hope you start to feel better sounds like a crappy day

Prosecco always made me feel like that.

I’d feel really drunk after just a few glasses and the hangover the next day would be awful. I could drink loads of gin, not be drunk and feel fine the next day, only happened with Prosecco.

I gave up drinking altogether last year, it really isn’t worth it for me anymore.

It's the lack of food. If I drink on an empty stomach, my hangover is a million times worse

If you drink Gin and tonic or Vodka and soda
You will have ‘less’ of a hangover because of the hydration of the tonic / soda

But if you are drinking something like wine or Beer, then there is nothing to dilute it with so the hangover is likely to be worse

Hangovers are basically a combination of a few things , including dehydration
The more you are sick, the worse you feel

There used to be a saying "Wine then beer, fear! Beer then wine, fine :-)" Not sure if this is an old wives tale or there is something in this.

Yes lack of food doesn’t help. Also I was already tired going out and now I just feel so physically exhausted. Being sick that many times starts to hurt your body!
