How long have you been together

You break up with someone for over year at the start of your relationship and don’t see them, then get back together, and are together for several years. A conversation comes up about how long you’ve been together for. Would you say you’ve been together from the point you were originally together, or would you say you were together from the point you got back together the second time?

second time, if at the start of the relationship. I think its different if you separate after 10 years or something for a short time.

I might say together from the point you got back together but knew each other for say two years before that (or something similar).

The date you got back together. A year is a long time to be apart. I’d go with “we dated briefly before and then reconnected in 2019. We’ve been together ever since”.

From when you got back together.

Or, you use the total time but say we were together "on and off" for this many years.

I'd also say on and off for x number if years or "it's a bit of a long story haha". But assuming (for some reason) you have to be 100% accurate about it, I guess from the second time

It's complicated is perfect here.
