School uniform

Jacko10 · 07/07/2024 16:51

Hello

My little boy is going to school this year - 3 days uniform and 2 days PE kit. Can I ask those more experienced school mums - how many of each item would you buy for the above? And also if you know if M&S do 20% off through the year or just now (so I can stock up!)

Thanks

What's the uniform?

Sirzy · 07/07/2024 16:53

It’s just now. I would aim for a clean top for each day at least unless you want to be doing a midweek wash!

2 each of regular uniform, 1 PE kit.

I buy enough for clean every day.
Between play time, lunch and general school grubbyness they always came home filthy.

I have smelly teenagers these days and I’m sure their teachers don’t enjoy the smell of unwashed uniforms.

The M&S sale is usually only during July every year.

I bought M&S trousers initially but I found them quite rough feeling- my favourite turned out to be Tesco's in the end so I'd recommend going around and feeling the fabrics rather than online ordering, the supermarkets might surprise you! I would get a set of uniform for each day and a spare- so four of basic uniform and three of PE for the above.

You want a spare set often in their bags if they are little in case of accidents at school. Also useful if you find out stains haven't come out of a set when you are unloading your washing for the week.

One for each day, plus a spare to send on his bag.

3 uniforms and 2 pe kits in this house minimum for the days you are talking about. I do a wash midweek most weeks but this means I don't have to if I don't need to. I would probably buy an extra uniform incase of an accident or a tear in trousers etc....

Bearybasket · 07/07/2024 16:58

If you can afford to I would get enough for a full fresh outfit each day, that way you only need to wash at the end of the week and if something gets torn or stained beyond use you don’t need to worry about rushing to replace it.

How old is little one? (How likely are they to wreck uniform regularly with paint/mud/play) my lo is 5 and this year we had 2 school jumpers 5 polos 4 trousers (because they come in 2 packs, have 3 in rotation one pair kept back for replacement/spare) 2 shorts (main uniform) and 1 school hoodie , 2 T-shirts , 1 joggers ,1shorts (pe kit) for 3 days uniform and 2 days pe.
it has worked well for us so will be doing same this year , most weeks it also leaves a spare set of uniform in case of emergency/if anything happens over weekend .

I think the m&s offer only runs early July it's an early bird type thing.
I would go for 5 shirts - 2 jumpers and 3 bottoms. Depending on your washing routine poss 2xpe kits. They get grubby in reception. Buy big and you will prob get a couple of years out of the jumpers and pe kit. With the shirts (I'm assuming polos) either buy cheap and don't worry about binning or buy bigger and better quality. Oh and stock up on stain remover.
