Noisy cars

Is anyone else fed up with noisy cars? I thought it had improved around here, but just lately I’ve been woken up repeatedly by some little idiot in a car that screeches and backfires. People do something to their exhaust so that it makes a banging, crackling sound - like fireworks going off. And they soup up the engine so it screeches.

I’m in Colchester/North Essex. Is it as bad in other parts of the U.K.?

I'm fed up with it too. They're such twats making their vehicles louder for no reason. I wish they'd be banned.

Same! It really makes my kid with cerebral palsy jump, it's so infuriating that the noise is just for "cosmetics"

I live in Solihull and it’s really bad here on one road in particular.

i just do not get it at all. My favourite thing about my electric car is how quiet it is. I cannot fathom why anyone would want their car to be louder than necessary??

I hate noise generally, but these cars upset me more than anything. Honestly, the rage I feel when they go by is overwhelming. It’s the vile selfishness of it that gets me. If people love cars, then fine. If you work hard, and save your money, then you’ve every right to spend it on what you love. But what pleasure do they get from fiddling with their exhaust so it screeches and bangs? It obviously amuses them to disturb and upset the neighbourhood. The police just do NOTHING. These boy racers idiots have been doing it for decades.

I have a niece who is ND and hyper-sensitive to noise. One of these twats accelerated past us as we were walking the dog. The exhaust made that awful screeching, banging sound and my niece stopped dead, put her hands over her ears and burst into tears.

It must be a mixture of spite and attention-seeking. They clearly enjoy upsetting people. And they like the fact that everyone looks at them.

The noise and popping is annoying. But it takes a special kind of wanker to have a 3d number plate.

Little fucker opposite us likes to rev the fuck out of his car before parking...why in fuck would you do this.

He was dicking about under his already noisy heap of crap a few months ago. After he finished and fired it up, it was competition for the Space Shuttle on take off.

Looks like he's got an oil leak now, so I'm hoping for an engine seize soon.

Exactly. HOW do they get away with it??!! I know the police are stretched, and no one expects them to catch every single one of these horrible, ignorant, selfish little idiots. But idiots generally mix with other idiots. If the police pulled one or two over and gave them a fine, they’d tell their idiot friends. News would then spread on the idiot grapevine.

It really isn’t fair on people. We ought to take noise pollution far more seriously, especially on a small, overcrowded island like this, where the houses are all jammed on top of one another. It ruins lives.

Yes,I'm fed up with this too. I live in West London,not far from Heathrow and there has been an absolute plague of them this summer. There is one in particular (at least,I think it's the same one) who drives around the estate several evenings a week,usually around midnight,making this ghastly noise. Also, there is a 20 mph speed limit on the road where I live,not that you'd know it, going on the speeds that I regularly see cars doing. I reckon one that I saw a couple of days ago must have been doing at least 50. And course, they NEVER get caught. I'm always hearing about people getting caught doing 23 mph in a 20 zone,so how come these wankers never get caught?
