Am I moving to a shithole?

Help! We’re moving for husbands work and found a place we like in Lilliput Poole. Everything seemed fine until I started to read threads on mumsnet and found some less than favourable reviews!
apparently lots of homelessness, lots of violent crime, on the other hand people say is all elderly residents and boring… Is Lilliput a bad area, or is it just the proximity to Poole centre / Bournemouth centre that people think is bad? I’m so confused, thinking of pulling out or moving to surrounding areas.
if you know the area what are your thoughts please?

You're moving to somewhere that you haven't been to see first?

Crazy

@sanogo I didn’t say I haven’t seen it. I’ve never lived there and looking for opinions from residents with a more in depth knowledge of the area.

Did you move there in the end? My sister has lived there for years, and my brother lives next door in Ashley Cross. Lilliput, itself is lovely, quiet and great for schools. All I would say is it's next to Ashley Cross which is great for cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars but has become, in recent years, a focal point for Poole nightlife, with late licenses, etc. In all likelihood you won't notice unless you're living above one of these places, right on the green, but obviously it gets busy and can be noisy, especially on Friday/Saturday nights.

Most places if you look at them online have bad notices. Is it the elderly doing drug taking??!!!!!

I wouldn't worry too much. Unless it is like the Isle of Sheppy* and looks totally abandoned with yobs hanging around every street corner with their even uglier Mutts then it is probably like the rest of England. Has good spots and bad.

  • With apologies to anyone that lives there of course!

Eh? Random.

All areas have good and bad places.

Are the reviews for Lilliput, or Poole in general?

Nothing wrong with Lilliput. Very handy for the ferry across to Shell bay which is a lovely beach. Poole shops are good and there are lots of buses, train station on main line to London.. Bournemouth centre sadly has gone right downhill.
If you like sailing or sea fishing Poole is a great place to live.

Lilliput is a lovely area, quiet, leafy and near the fab Compton Acres gardens. Yes, lots of well-off retirees but I wouldn't be put off by that. Bournemouth town centre has gone downhill and Poole town centre was never much to write home about, although some good features, but there are still plenty of decent (and more than decent) areas.
