Attending a concert alone?

Contemplating going to a concert myself for a band that I discovered last year. It would be a train ride away and I might need to stay overnight.

They're a very different band and I've only been to pop concerts before but nobody I know would be interested in going. I'm hoping if I go that I don't stick out like a sore thumb, I'm not hugely girly but not alternative looking either so am a bit worried that I'll look out of place. Not that everyone will be watching me but I feel a bit self conscious especially on my own.

Should I go for it? I've travelled myself a lot but don't go out socialising much these days and am usually at home at night. But last year I was thinking oh I wish they'd come here and now they are.

Yes, go for it! I’ve been to gigs on my own.

FatmanandKnobbin · 06/07/2024 09:16

I've been to loads of gigs on my own, go for it, everyone will be looking at the band, not you, so you won't stick out at all.

WetBandits · 06/07/2024 09:17

Oooh which band? I’d go to a gig alone if it’s someone I really wanted to see and I couldn’t convince anyone else to come with me!

Of course you should go. Never let the absence of someone else to do something with stop you doing something you really want.

itsmylife7 · 06/07/2024 09:20

Your wish came true OP.... so do it.

BaronessBomburst · 06/07/2024 09:20

Yes. Go!
You don't need to be alternative looking. I've never been to a gig where jeans and a black t-shirt weren't okay.
On the other hand, it can be fun to dress up! 😁

ForGreyKoala · 06/07/2024 09:22

Go for it! I went to plenty of gigs alone in the days when I was young and had a great time.

kitsuneghost · 06/07/2024 09:23

Just go. Trust me, nobody is looking at you.

Waitingfordoggo · 06/07/2024 09:24

I’ve been to a gig on my own and it was great. It actually makes it easier if you need to go to the loo/go to the bar and don’t have to worry about finding your friends again. The only issue I had was that the bloke standing next to me wanted to chat and thought it was a shame I was there on my own so kept trying to get me to ‘join in’ with his group which I didn’t want to do 😂 I just moved away from him in the end.

EndlessSummer · 06/07/2024 09:25

Definitely go!

I went to a concert once on my own as a friend was ill on the day. I was shaking with nerves queuing up but it was fine and the kind of thing that’s easy to do on your own.

Why don’t you find out what everyone wears? I went to a big concert this week and most people were in black jeans, converse, checked shirt type of style and I wished that I had worn that myself.

CraftyNavySeal · 06/07/2024 09:26

No one cares what you wear, loads of people go to gigs straight from work so they can’t rock up looking like Gene Simmonds anyway!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 06/07/2024 09:26

I go to gigs on my own and so does my sister. As long as you have comfy feet if you're standing for ages you'll be fine! There are groups on FB for gig buddies - you could see if there are other solos going and meet up?

Nigellasstickytoffeepudding · 06/07/2024 09:26

If your going to an alternative band then you will be in the same room with some of the nicest most accepting people you will ever meet.

So don't worry about it, go. Meet new people and make some friends.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 06/07/2024 09:28

I second @Nigellasstickytoffeepudding 's point about nice alt crowds - heavy metal gig crowds are friendly and the styles of people run the gamut from full goth BDSM type get up to jeans and a hoodie people 😁

Thanks everyone good to know you've all had great experiences on your own. I think I'll go for it! It's Heilung, they look amazing and the atmosphere will be incredible I reckon! Need to get out and do more fun things.

Omg absolutely go!! I’m very tempted to join you Grin amazing band.

LlynTegid · 06/07/2024 09:48

Have a lovely time OP.

socks1107 · 06/07/2024 09:52

I've done concerts alone, it's brilliant and I love doing it

greencatbob · 06/07/2024 09:56

I've been to gigs in my own. No one is going to bat and eye it even know you're on your own - or care!

No one trying to talk to you when the band is on... you can leave when you want etc

Enjoy!

SureJanOK · 06/07/2024 10:00

I went to vegas on my own to see a concert. Best thing I ever did

FailBetter · 06/07/2024 10:24

I was about to say the ticket price £152 was absolutely ridiculous...until I discovered there are 30+ people involved?
I liked the show The Vikings. It sounds like it will be a memorable experience.
I've done two gigs alone - one felt like attending church, it was almost spiritual for me (shortly before Covid struck and we were all singing in unison).
Having just heard Anoana, I think your Heilung gig will be like that.
The other was a student union gig and was heaving but I was able to get a drink and find a bit of space near the front/side where I could lean against the wall as I hate gigs where the crowd get lairy.
I'd definitely go to a gig again on my own, it's liberating.
Viel Spass!

FailBetter · 06/07/2024 10:33

Oh and thank you for the intro to the band OP. It's really interesting, like going to a celtic reenactment or something Grin. I like it. I liked Sigur Ros and Godspeed you black emperor many moons ago. But Heilung is more healing, it's true. I will annoy DD and make her listen now.

May I also recommend Faun and SKÁLD!

Not bought ticket yet am wondering how I'll get home a hotel would be best probably as not sure trains will be running after the gig. But hotels are £££. Maybe I could drive but where to park hmm...

Maybe I should just get a ticket and worry about it later?!

Definitely! Most concerts finish by 11 due to noise curfews so that might help with travel
