Where is Larry the Cat ????

imfae · 06/07/2024 07:42

Haven't seen any sightings of him during all the tv coverage .

Has he given up and moved out - after his now 6 th family in the last 14 years ?

I know the chat is that the Starmers may not move in completely to No 10 or even No 11 and retain their own home elsewhere .

What happens as well if the new incumbents also have a cat or even worse a dog ????

Where is Larry ????

He said on this morning that they have a cat called Jo should be interesting!

I’ve been wondering about Larry. I didn’t see him yesterday.

Exactly. He has his own team of full time professional door-openers so he doesn't have to go through the indignity of using a cat flap.

That cat is living the dream and all the other cats in the country will be insanely jealous of him.

But Palmerstone found it do stressful that he was rehoused with 1 of the staff

not just pm change but mass staff change all tge time as well

fleabites · 06/07/2024 09:48

I think Palmerstone was constantly at loggerheads with Larry or rather Larry wanted rid of him and that's why he ended up having to move out.

WoozieWoo · 06/07/2024 09:49

Who originally bought Larry? Does he actually officially live there? Is he a stray that just turned up?
Do number 10 feed and and do all his veterinary care?

Grapesichord · 06/07/2024 09:50

I have a friend who was part of the crew outside No 10. she took lots of pix of him.
There are rats around there, one PM was speaking at the lectern and there was a rat at his feet. Larry is valued!

Grapesichord · 06/07/2024 09:52

He was adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats home in 2011

Larry seemed to live there quite happily with Dilyn the dog, who didn't seem the best behaved.

Dilyn the dog was far too well behaved in my opinion. There is no record of 'accidents' on Mr Johnson.

Back to Larry, I'm a bit concerned about the puppy that one of the Starmer children is wanting.

He's classed as a civil servant (apparently) and is looked after by Downing Street staff, who also provide him with his food.

Aww that's actually adorable.

PuttingDownRoots · 06/07/2024 09:55

As Larry ages... Will he be involved in interviewing his successor?

Will there be a Cat Election?

I would guess that if there were, a lot of people would vote to choose Larry's successor. If it were combined with a donation to whichever cat rescue centre was involved, it could raise a lot of money.

George Osborne also had a cat called Freya who joined Larry at one point.

And the FCO had Palmerston

The Starmer's have a cat too. So I don't think Larry will be on his own much longer.

They said he was stressed by the size and how hard it was to get into his space. They tried making 1 route in and there were lots of door signs about him and what not to do if you saw him

He killed one of the queens ducks?

yorktown · 06/07/2024 10:19

I don't think the Starmers are set on a puppy, they might hopefully adopt a dog?
I'd feel more sorry for Starmercat if it has to move in, will it not stay at their current home?

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 06/07/2024 10:23

Palmerston was looked after by the very powerful civil servant Sir Simon MacDonald who ran the foreign and commonwealth office before being sacked by BJ, probably for being good at his job. I think MacDonald did an excellent PR job on Palmerston who was a real cat's cat and created a fair few incidents. I think MacDonald wanted Palmerston to lead a less exciting life after recovering from an unspecified injury/illness.
Larry was introduced by Big Dave Cameron who clearly adored him and wanted a cat at work with him. Larry fills an official post and is a civil servant not a pet of the prime ministers family. His food and bills are covered by the staff at no 10. This is mainly for political reasons. In the past no 10 cats have been actual government employees and had wages.
I love Larry.

I think they're all moving in but over the summer as he doesn't want to cause too much upset as one of his children was taking their GCSEs.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 06/07/2024 10:26

It was Palmerston who killed the ducklings. It was potentially very bad publicity as it was filmed and photographed.
However Palmerston was a Foreign Office Cat and thus protected by them. I don't think the duckling specifically belonged to the late Queen.

He is very active on Twitter, turns out he is left leaning so appears to be happy.

Which is quite funny as I suspect my cat is a Tory. Very much sneering at the woke dog, who is welcoming to all. The cat peers down on us all in open contempt at our life choices.

Edingril · 06/07/2024 10:28

I presume preparing his list of requirements for the meowcomers?

kirinm · 06/07/2024 10:29

So was Larry David Cameron's cat? Do other people (say housekeepers) live there all the time so he has an actual owner - who is the same person even when PMs change?

(I just saw him on 24 hour news)

dogoverman · 06/07/2024 10:35

Larry is very well looked after but I have heard he is a very bossy cat who wasn't a big fan of Dillion the dog
