Ok....this thought popped into my head earlier and I am curious.
So imagine if every single constituency had an Independent candidate and in each one that candidate won....who would be Prime Minister?
Because there's no party leader - cause it's not a party.

Yes I voted independent this year and I was wondering that too.

I'd expect the independents would form alliance with each other and which ever got the biggest group started would get to choose between them. Basically restarting the party system from scratch over again.

It's not necessarily the leader of the largest party that is Prime Minister (though it always has been the case), it's the person who has "the confidence of the house", ie whoever most of the MPs are happy representing them as leader.
A bunch of independents in government would decide who among them is best as a figurehead and send that person to the monarch.

I suppose they could get Larry the cat to pick his favourite 😂
It's an unlikely to ever happen situation - but it got my brain curious.
