Just that really, I'd love some recommendations for good board games for my child who has recently turned 5. Games that we can enjoy as a family.

Mine always loved the shopping game by orchard toys

Danascully2 · 05/07/2024 19:24

Yes to the shopping game, also the bus stop game by orchard toys.

Also

Kerplunk

Matching games. DD is 4 but not a fan of snakes and ladders etc

We like to play buckaroo together, but not sure that counts!

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 05/07/2024 19:32

Junior cluedo is also fun

Comedycook · 05/07/2024 19:33

Oh and pop up pirate

Speaking · 05/07/2024 19:33

Connect 4, Dobble, Uno

Albatrossing · 05/07/2024 19:35

"Sleeping Queens" is great. "Taco, Cat, Cheese, Pizza" also lasts and lasts

BippityBopper · 05/07/2024 19:36

Frustration is the current favourite for my DS. He likes snakes and ladders too.

HappierTimesAhead · 05/07/2024 19:36

Orchard games particularly Shopping list and Snakes and Ladders
Dobble
Junior Monopoly
Hanging monkeys

CoodleMoodle · 05/07/2024 19:37

Another vote for Orchard Toys games, all of them are good. We've got hundreds but our favourites are Lunch Box, Tummy Ache, Pizza Pizza, Little Bug Bingo and Bus Stop.

We've also got a great game called Outfoxed, where you work as a team against the fox. DS (nearly 6) hates losing and copes better when he's on a team! It's by Peaceable Kingdom and they have a few different games on Amazon (I've ordered Gnomes At Night for his birthday). DD(10) likes Outfoxed as well, so it's good for different ages.

Also Junior Labyrinth (we have the Spidey one) and things like Uno/Top Trumps Jr are good for that age, DS always wants to do what DD is doing so to have a version of a more grown up game that he can play usually placates him!

Cherubs4 · 05/07/2024 19:45

Ticket to Ride Junior and Monopoly Junior. A nice set of memory cards. A children's version of ludo can be fun and a classic snakes and ladders

UpUpUpU · 05/07/2024 19:46

Bugs in the kitchen is a favourite here at the minute, alongside junior monopoly and junior charades

outside1inside · 05/07/2024 19:48

The orchard toys games make me feel like jamming a metal spike through my head because the are sooo boring!

Hungry hippos
Kerplunk
Buckaroo
Frustration
Junior monopoly
The house that jack built
Uno
Whot

Ineedaholidayyyy · 05/07/2024 19:50

Thanks for the suggestions so far. We've got Dobble, connect 4 , snakes and ladders, pop up pirate and hungry hippos. I'd like to add some more grown up ones

We've got a few caravan holidays coming up and I would like to take some new games for the evenings or rainy days!

It's hard to find in the UK but "candyland" is a winner, even very young children can play it.

SkippysEar · 05/07/2024 19:55

In that case try Crazy 8s. The best card game for kids that age.

OpizpuHeuvHiyo · 05/07/2024 19:55

Cobra Paw
Labyrinth
There's a family friendly version of Cards Against Humanity which kids absolutely love as soon as they can confidently read.

Marshmallow87 · 05/07/2024 20:05

We’ve been playing grabolo every day since we bought it 3 year old abs 5 year old love it!
