I can't believe you can now have surgery to change your eye colour.

Is this a thing anyone else knew about? It's messed up.

Why would you risk damaging your eyes when you can use different coloured contact lenses?

DallasCC · 04/07/2024 21:52

It's a dystopian hellscape

ienjoyeatingcake · 05/07/2024 09:39

It looks awful too, like fake coloured contact lenses but you're stuck with them forever!

God, humans are getting more and more pathetic!

The amount of modification people are doing to their faces is becoming very extreme. It's not reflecting well on our society and the pressure to fit certain beauty standards.

I see different members of my family when I see my face in the mirror, some who are no longer with us. I see my late nana's distinct shade of blue eyes when I look at my son. It actually makes me sad that people are letting go of their individual faces so easily.

newnamethanks · 05/07/2024 10:34

O yukky yuk yuk. Too squirmy for words.

Soubriquet · 05/07/2024 10:41

Nope!!!! Eeesh. Eye surgery makes me cringe. It was hard enough for me to stick colour changing lenses in for one night. (Pink cats eyes).

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/07/2024 10:43

It is particularly sad because if you look at before and after photos, they all look better before.

I feel the same as you. This is what I find sad about all the fillers, Botox etc that people have now. The beauty is surely in what you described, seeing your whole family in our faces. Recognising a smile or a jawline or eyes or even just a particular glance. It's how we live on after death, we live on with those little familiarities in our future families faces. It seems so sad to pump anyone full of filler etc, just makes everyone look the same and takes away the beauty that can't be faked.

Oh yeah, I've seen this kind of thing before. I remember seeing once, a few kind of thrash metal/death metal type of people, who were covered in tattoos, have their iris(s) tattooed so they were black. I assume it's the same kind of thing.

They must be absolutely insane.

Also my eyes are a lovely rich blue, so I would never change them. Why would anyone want to change their eye colour? Confused

It's mainly people changing brown eyes to blue, but it looks so odd and unrealistic. They look like zombie eyes!

This is a lovely point. Totally agree 🙏🏻

This is your white privilege talking. I happen to have green eyes but I belong to an ethnic group who mostly have brown eyes/brown hair.

As a child i never really played much with dolls since they were either blond haired and blue eyed or maybe black. It was puzzling to me since SO many people in the world have brown eyes and hair and various shades of white/brown skin.

My kids are all gorgeous but clearly (from peoples comments) since they have brown hair and eyes those are obviously hideous and not a single person has ever ever said what lovely brown eyes your child has.

Once child (not my best looking child by far) got a huge amount of comments on his lighter colour hair. Which (seemingly) was far superior to brown.

I have a relative who had blond curls. EVERYONE talked about how beautiful he was and ignored my kids. Solely based on his hair.

I wouldn't change my eye colour either but please understand those who do have experienced life long responses like this, clearly based on racist ideology that light skin, hair and eyes are superior.

ImMoId · 05/07/2024 12:33

You rank your kids' looks? Weird.

Not to their face but yes, some of my kids are better looking than others, (although obviously all are perfect looking to me!) Some are cleverer, some are harder working, some are more easy going.

Are we meant to pretend our children are clones?

I never got that memo.

Vinividivici · 05/07/2024 12:38

"Also my eyes are a lovely rich blue, so I would never change them. Why would anyone want to change their eye colour?"

Wtf 😅

This is like someone saying, "Also I have a tiny waist and large breasts. Why would anyone want to change their bodies?"

See exactly what I mean!

Blue eyes are not necessarily more beautiful than brown eyes or green eyes, although they can be lovely, as can any colour eyes. But we live in a society that deems blue eyes superior.

onemoretine · 05/07/2024 12:46

My husband has a lot of problems with one of his eyes and eventually he's going to lose all colour in his iris and just have a white eye. I had never heard of this type of surgery before and having just looked it up it sounds like it can be quite dangerous, which just makes me sad really. People just don't realise how precious their eyes are.

I can't believe (well, I can. Obviously I'm not calling you a liar) that nobody has complimented the colour of your dc's eyes. As a young teenager, I was madly in love with a boy in my db's class. His gorgeous brown eyes were the main attraction for me. Unfortunately, he didn't know I existed😓Probably my hazelish/greyish eye colour😀I still have a bit of a thing for brown eyes though.

Can I ask, has the doll situation improved since you were a child? It was not diverse when my dc were small but I've no idea what it's like now. It's terrible that toys don't represent the diversity of our children, including disabilities etc.

booksunderthebed · 05/07/2024 12:54

2 of my siblings have the most gorgous deep dark brown eyes which I envied!

But, no, don't recall anyone commenting on my kids eyes.

My eyes are green but not particularly striking or anything. But I won't be changing them to a deep dark brown!

I think dolls on sale now are SO much better, it wasn't hard to find diverse dolls for my kids. Barbies, bratz, other dolls - all come in lots of hair colours and eye colours I think.

Cas112 · 05/07/2024 12:55

The risk of going blind from it eventually is actually very high so I'm so unsure why people still go ahead

Biggleslefae · 05/07/2024 12:58

Isn't it more to do with blue eyes and blonde hair being rare, so they stand out and people notice them more?

I don't understand it. I was seen by a very lovely nurse last week. Her personality was hugely attractive and I'm sure she would have been beautiful, if it weren't for the huge lips the the immovable skin.
