Can I just give my baby zinc and iron, instead of having bloods?

My son has severe eczema that we are under paediatric consultant for, they want to do bloods just to check if his zinc or iron is low as that can affect the skin apparently.

I just really don't want to have to do it, he had a lot of bloods when he was newborn and they were awful. It's not a quick process with babies. He's only one.

The appointment is tomorrow and I just want to say no, can he not just be topped up with some zinc and iron supplements? See if it makes a difference? Does he need the bloods?

I will ask his consultant when I can get hold of them.. I just wondered if anyone knew?

No. Too much is as harmful as too little.

No. You could do way more harm than good.

Damn it, bloods it is. Thanks though!

No, def get the test.

Definitely not. Both can be fatal in overdose.
Iron overdose is one of the most common causes of fatal poisoning in young children.

Make sure he’s hydrated. We had squeezy toys to play with to get veins up. Make sure he has numbing cream. Sit with him on your lap and hold a HUGE storybook! We also had someone blowing bubbles or other distraction whilst someone “held his hand”!
