Gold Watch Recommendations for Female

A big birthday is fast approaching for DD. She mentioned that she would quite like to have a gold watch as a present. I am keen on this idea as it is practical and would make a lovely keepsake.

I am looking for a watch that looks elegant/sophisticated with a clear dial. I think I will steer clear of vintage but perhaps with this orientation.

Not worked out a budget but hundreds rather than thousands.

Can anyone recommend where to look or perhaps an actual watch please?

Must admit, I am entering overwhelm at where to start.

Big and bold or small and feminine?

CelesteCunningham · 03/07/2024 15:05

Fossil? Or maybe Tissot?

Jutemat I'm thinking more on the femine side but I'm open to possibilities.

CelesteCunningham Thanks for the suggestions will take a look.

I like Longines watches, some elegant mid priced ones. Also Tissot , Accurist, Skagen
But best to know what style she likes - does she like round faces or prefer rectangles or squares?
Lots to choose from 😀

Goldsmiths stock loads of brands and have a good filter so you could start there to get an idea of what's out there.

Certina is a good brand for around the £500 mark. Double that and you're into Longines.

Also I take it you know some are battery powered (quartz), others are mechanical/automatic, so need winding.

Need more specifics on price.... £300 is a world from £900

Just dont spend a lot of money on a fashion brand thats just cheap tat underneath, like Versace/Armani etc. You want a proper watch manufacturer.

I know you said keep clear of vintage , but your money goes further, ladies vintage watches do not have the premium that men’s do and a brand like Omega is a quality brand without the silly price of Rolex etc .

Something like this is classic and elegant https://www.william-may.co.uk/pre-owned-vintage-1972-9ct-yellow-gold-omega-dress-watch?srsltid=AfmBOorGNb1HQkEnPqkgNYSZ2nmHpyDg9nLSa1je2kVbapadrvwYv1eRHBU

I bought one of my children a gold vintage watch for their 21 st a couple of years ago and they were delighted , it gets worn for special occaisions and their friends always admire it. It’s a bit different.

I have a Bering watch, which my lovely parents got me for a big birthday (much bigger than your DD's I suspect!). Very minimalist and not silly money, which suits me as I wear it every day. So far, 5 years constant wear and still looks like new!

DH bought me a gold Gucci watch which I've absolutely battered but still love.... had mine 25 years. This is very similar....

The original post gives me shades of Martin Goodman.

My husband got me a beautiful gold nordgreen watch a couple of years ago. I love it, it has a blue dial and looks very elegant but simple. He did very well as I'd never heard of them before!
