Lidl cheese-topped pretzel rolls

Public Service Announcement. I don’t know how long these have been in existence - have been disloyal to Lidl since a new Aldi opened nearer. Nipped in this morning to find they still don’t sell soy sauce, but who cares, when their bakery sells these beauties???

Highly recommend - I crisped mine up a bit in the air fryer and it was heavenly.

They had round pretzel rolls too which look cuter, but I felt the need for cheese today.

I mean they are probably a total travesty, not being pretzel-shaped or anything, but they taste absolutely fantastic so I’m all in favour.

Interesting....😏 Lidl near us definitely sells Soy sauce- both light and dark varieties. They're with the jar cooking sauces etc, rather than the condiments though - maybe you looked in the wrong spot?

Lidl baker is the absolute best. The chocolate croissant is Devine and the brownie, my god I'd eat the whole tray of them
Do t bother with the garlic and herb pretzel though it's not nice at all

Ooh, they sound nice. But I don't understand 'but they still don't sell soy sauce'? Surely they do? Are you looking in the right place?

Hmm, there’s only one way to find out - go back in for another cheese-topped pretzel roll and check all possible soy sauce locations.

It’s a dirty job but someone’s got to do it…

It seems not! And until the new Aldi I have shopped in Lidl for years. Clearly saving all my powers of observation for new arrivals in the bakery area.

The thing with the cheese topped Laugenstange, to call them by their real name, is that they have been around for years in other countries- ok Germany...

Their arrival is definitely a huge plus point for Brexit! As pre Brexit they would have been far to ordinary.

They definitely sell soy sauce. Light and dark! It'll be near the noodles, rice packets, curry sauces etc.

Highly recommend their Low GI Multiseed Cob loaf. Absolutely delicious. Eat fresh, it's the best on the day.

CalicoPusscat · 03/07/2024 10:56

I even got sweet soy sauce in there recently! Although that was limited edition. They definitely have light/dark.

Lidl soy sauce is pretty good, we also like the egg noodles and sesame oil. In the local store they are at the end of the aisle with curry sauce and boil in the bag rice..

Their almond croissants are so good . I could eat them every day . Going to try the cheese topped pretzels on my next visit !

Lidl has great bakery items! That's why avoid it like the plague...

Hurray, they are a real thing, not a travesty! The only travesty being how long Lidl kept us in the dark about their existence.

They are like a long wide hotdog bun shape. Terrible description but can’t think of the right word for it. Or the tiniest French stick ever. Anyway, you aren’t looking for a pretzel covered with cheese, but the word pretzel will be on the shelf ticket.

Now I need to start a campaign for them to introduce something made with that incredible poppy-seed filling - I remember buying some kind of baked product from a bakery in Germany every morning with this inside it, and it was heavenly.

I recently discovered these at my local Lidl - I love them (a little bit too much) 😁

My local one doesn't sell almond croissants, only ordinary and chocolate.😥

I got a free pastry on the app and went in with the hope of getting an almond croissant. I had an apple turnover instead. It was ok but I really wanted an almond croissant.
