Help please-restaurant booking!

In April I made a booking for a just opening restaurant in London. There was a lot of hype about it because the chef was m Great British Menu and it booked out very quickly (it still is!) and we were very excited to get a table at the end of July. Immediately after booking, I realized that I had booked for 4 and it needed to be 6 so I tried to change it, but I had no response. I've been emailing and ringing every couple of weeks since, but still no response. There is an automated online cancelling thingy but that's all-the phone refers you to that. To complicate matters even further, one of the 6 has developed an egg allergy! Still no reply to my repeated messages. What would you do? Just assume that they've got my message and just turn up? Actually physically go to the restaurant-which would be possible but annoying and take up most of a day? Some other solution I haven't heard of?

Try them on instagram

is it Plates? If so, they are very active on social media.

if you just rock up
likely to be. very disappointed

although doesn’t bode well anyway that you can’t get through to them

france1926 · 03/07/2024 08:13

what’s the restaurant?

Georgieporgie29 · 03/07/2024 08:15

I would either go beforehand and check or just 4 people go on the night. I don’t think they would have amended your booking to 6 without confirming with you.

Not a good first impression though that you cant get hold of them.

I also think that you will be very unlikely to be given a table for 6 if your booking is for 4. So you definitely have to contact them! (Somehow … !)

Yes-Plates. I know-it's very weird I can't get in touch-it seems so not their vibe! I hadn't thought of trying to get them on Insta or something- thank you. And yes, I realise just turning up is a bad idea-although picking who gets to go to McDonalds might make for an interesting family dynamic!

Will their booking system allow you to book a separate table for six then cancel the one for four?

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 03/07/2024 08:27

Try via X/Twitter or Instagram.

If it's Plates then I believe it is a vegan restaurant? Eggs won't be an issue there.

Sorry if I am wrong.

There's no way you will get six people seated if you have booked for four though and if it's fully booked they won't have room to increase the table size.

CurlewKate · 03/07/2024 09:01

@CarlaH yes- but I'm sure I remember him using egg on the show in something-but I'm probably wrong. Maybe I'm panicking!

I know-I am worried they might not have room for us- but I do have a "paper trail" since the day after I first booked, so I am keeping my fingers crossed!

I really think there is no chance at all they they will seat six people on a table for four and if they are fully booked then you won't all get in.

I think somehow you have to reduce the number of diners one way or another or just cancel and try again in the future.

NiceCutRoundDomeDormice · 03/07/2024 09:43

I’ve just looked at their website and it says they’re fully booked until February 😳 I doubt you’ll be able to change the booking unfortunately. Your best bet is to draw straws or similar to see who drops out.

CurlewKate · 03/07/2024 12:20

I have an update! I just called and actually got Keeley! At first she said no way- but when I showed her my"paper trail" and grovelled she said she'd see what she could do. So fingers crossed.....
