Aga dishes - AIBU not to use these?!

In a rented cottage on holiday. It has an Aga. These are the oven dishes. AIBU to say these are filthy?? Or is the dirt baked on due to the heat of an Aga??

It’s baked on due to the heat of the aga
they will be absolutely fine .

Sharrilanda · 02/07/2024 19:18

It looks like baked on marks.

Run everything through a very hot dishwasher wash before use if you’re unsure?

Mrsredlipstick · 02/07/2024 19:21

Aga heat. Put them through the dishwasher. Intense programme.
Remember the top oven is seriously hot. Be careful getting stuff out.

ExitPursuedByABare · 02/07/2024 19:22

Lucky you.

outdamnedspots · 02/07/2024 19:24

Really? They are manky!

No dishwasher.

Sorry, I have an Aga and none of my oven dishes are that dirty! No dirt is baked on so much you can't get it clean, they are just dirty.

Whether you can be bothered to give them a good clean - on your holiday- is up to you.

shearwater2 · 02/07/2024 19:25

The only people I know who have oven equipment which is spotless is my parents - because they don't know how to cook.

Thank you!!

I'm not keen on using them, and I'm not spending my holiday cleaning them.

Edited

Hmm. My ovenware is clean, and I use it all the time.

I would line them with tin foil before use.

Mrsredlipstick · 02/07/2024 19:50

Cast iron gets 'seasoned' but glass and pyrex gets cleaned like anything else. Ditto stainless steel. You could soak them overnight in washing powder.

I don't blame you. My fingers feel tacky just looking at the photos!

That's what I think, @TonTonMacoute !

Hmmm whilst I would think they could be cleaner I would give them a quick once over and use them....any germs will be killed whilst cooking so I couldn't get my knickers in a twist about them.

yikesanotherbooboo · 03/07/2024 10:26

Food gets baked on but it doesn't mean there are germs there. I am a bit squeamish about dishes but I know it is illogical. If you want reassurance a hot wash will mean the dish is clean even if there are still some marks.

spikeandbuffy · 03/07/2024 10:30

One of mine looks like that
It's clean, I've scrubbed it, scraped it, soaked it a million times but it won't look any better!

Hmm, fair enough, but it's different for a holiday house, I think...

I have an Aga and none of my dishes are filthy like that and I am a fairly lax housekeeper!

I would line them with foil or grease proof paper OP, logically we know the heat from the Aga will kill any germs, but by lining the dishes at least your food isn't in contact with any burnt on residues.

catsnore · 04/07/2024 21:25

Needs a hot soak and attacking with a Brillo pad 😂

That is not acceptable in a holiday home! Other people's burnt on crud? Yuck.

MistressOfCopperMountain · 04/07/2024 21:47

Get some cheap baking paper or foil or both to line the dishes after basic wash. Take the rest so the rolls home.

They are filthy! I wouldn’t use them without a good soak and wash.

Nevertheless… Enjoy your holiday x

The holiday was back in July, @TheRealHousewife !! We didn't use them.
