Left the gas burner on all night and day!

Just arrived home from work thought I could smell something in the kitchen but thought nothing of it. Just gone to make an omelette and discovered the gas flame has been on low all this time! Since yesterday evening basically! I'd not switched it off properly when I finished cooking last night. What an idiot.

My bills will be through the roof! And I'm also worried that I've done something to my health (and my cats). I've been feeling a bit funny today but felt like it was ibs related.

Any advice please? Thanks.

Don't worry. An open window for a short time will clear the room of fumes. It won't have used that much gas if it was on low. It's easy to do.

Phew thanks. I think the smell was from the frying pan that was partially sitting on the burner, had window open a crack anyway and have opened the door too. Think I'm going to have to copy my granny and go round checking all appliances are off before bed!

Have you got a carbon monoxide detector? It's a good idea...

Hopefully, the cost won't be too much if it was only on low.

If cats seem OK now, ie not overly sleepy or not right, I wouldn't worry too much. You could open windows and door(s) close by until you go to bed to get some fresh air in.

Re your gas bill. Compare current reading to last reading and use the formula on your bills to calculate the usage.

I did this once and like you I was very worried! I opened up all of my windows and was paranoid about it for quite a bit but all was ok and nothing inflated on my gas bill.

Oh, I did exactly this the other night. So frustrating!

I have a carbon monoxide detector and it definitely wasn't going off. It's just the pointless cost that I am annoyed at.

Thanks everyone. Yes I have a carbon monoxide detector. I've left the window open a little and checked nothing is on. Cats seem fine. Hopefully bill is OK will check. Just a very silly thing to do, need to pay attention in future.
