Overdose?

Ive been to the pharmacy today to collect a prescription for a strong antibiotic and the pharmacist said to take 2 as my first dose then 1 daily. I've been violently sick and googled and apparently you should take 2...12 hours apart. I phoned the pharmacy straight away and the pharmacist who said it wasn't available and they advised me to call the er but I also can't get through but will keep trying

Am I unreasonable thinking she should have been clearer, if you're told take 2, would you take them both together? The box says 1 daily so no helpful

So the box / leaflet / stickers just say one daily? Does it say "take two 12 hours apart on your first day then one daily" anywhere on the sticker or anything or was it purely verbal instructions? I've normally had it with printed instructions on the box too, never only spoken - sounds odd the pharmacist has given instructions that contradict the prescription/box.

I know antibiotics can definitely give upset stomachs - it's always passed quite quickly for me, do you have anyone to keep an eye on you?

Nope, it was just verbal which I've never had either. No one with me... I'm sure I'll be fine but it was the last thing I needed as I felt ill enough to need them in the first place

Would you have done what I did and taken 2 together if she'd said that to you?

Oh yes if she'd told me to take two as my first dose, I'd think she meant take two together! I'd have double checked the box / papers but probably trusted the advice of a pharmacist.

I find pro biotics and similar help get my gut back on track if I have to take antibiotics! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Doxycycline

Is it doxycycline? If so that's standard dosing.I vomit if I have not had much to eat do always take it with food and a full glass of water. How long after taking it did you vomit? My only concern would be that you've vomited back the dose.

About 35 minutes.... So that's right, take 2 together? I've never been sick from antibiotics ever and I feel really weird and heady with it so that's why I felt a bit scared

I take this a few times a year and it's standard to take two at one then one a day Just take it with food tomorrow and you'll hopefully not vomit. Hope you feel better soon.

If it’s doxycycline you always take 2 tablets as first dose.

Doxycycline its usual to take a double-dose (200mg) first day, then 100mg dose for however many days after that. Don’t worry you’ve not overdosed.

I've been on this .it makes you feel hellish OP but as said you haven't overdosed.

Thank you both! That's logically made me feel a lot better.... My reaction to it isn't amazing though, I wish they'd given me literally anything else. I even queried it with the Dr if I could have something else and she said this was better...! Does it mean an allergic reaction or is this normal?

Normal but have with food next time and you shouldn't throw up again.

I felt horrible on it first dose I had to go to bed.

Doxycycline are hard on the stomach at the best of times but the first (double) dose is awful! Don’t worry, you haven’t OD’d. Try and take them on a full stomach for the rest of the course.

Yes it's normal to feel like that, it's hideous stuff!

Why is it used if so many react like us all? Or have I just been very lucky never reacting to antibiotics like this before?

I've just read its what they treat anthrax and wild animal bites with with so it must be bloody strong

It kills infections that you don't even have yet 😂

I usually get it when I have a severe kidney infection as I've kidney issues so although it's horrific It works well. I usually do some probiotic drinks after the course.

I always double dose at the beginning. If you're reacting you may have an allergy?

Two together and then one a day till they're all gone is the usual dose for Doxycycline.
